Best Desks for Kids

Let’s talk about kids desks! Honestly, there is something so exciting about creating a learning space for kids! Maybe I am thinking back to when I was a child and I loved shopping for school supplies. My kids have that same excitement about back-to-school shopping.

As many kids will be learning from home this year, one thing to consider is whether your child has a good desk! As kids get older, they tend to do homework in their rooms for less distraction.

Last year, my daughter really wanted a better desk space for her room and I can say it was worth the investment. She did her homework at her desk every night. Then, when school was all online in March, she was at her desk for a good part of each day.

Today, I will talk about how to pick the right desk for your kids. Plus, I am sharing some of the best desks for kids that I could find! Now is the time to purchase a desk for your student as there are often great deals right now.

What kind of desk does my kid need for home learning?

Will your child be learning from home this school year? This year, your child might be in home schooling, doing classes virtually or a mix of in person and online. It is nice for kids to have a dedicated desk at home to do their work.

Deciding on which type of desk is best for your child is a personal matter of choice. There are some things to consider when choosing the best desk for your student.

What is the best desk for my child?

  • Do I plan to use the same desk for my child for their whole school career?

Are you looking for a desk that meets your child’s current needs or a desk that will grow with your child? You might decide that a smaller, less expensive desk is good for your young learner. Then, when he/she                 gets to middle school, you  might look at a large desk to carry him through the remainder of his school years.

  • How much do I want to spend on a desk for my kid?

Are you looking for a desk that is under $100 or do you have a bigger budget. Think about how much you will want to spend on a kid’s desk.

  • Will my child keep a computer on his desk?

Does your child have a personal computer or lap top that she keeps on her desk? You will need a desk with a larger work space to accommodate the electronics.

  • Where will you put the desk?

This might seem like an obvious answer if you plan to keep the desk in your child’s room. But if you are homeschooling your child, perhaps the kid’s desk will go in a common space. Either way, you want to make sure to measure how much room you will have for a new desk. This step will help ensure you get a desk that will fit in your space!

  • Do I need a desk with storage?

Is your priority for a large desk work space or is it a desk with a lot of storage? You may find a desk that fits both of those requirements. Or you may have to focus on one priority or the other. If your child is the collector of all things or he has a lot of school supplies, you will want to select a desk that has ample storage.

Selecting the Best Desk for Kids

Once you have answered all of these important questions, now it is time for the fun part! There are a lot of desks for kids out there but not every desk will be right for your student.

Desks with Storage

If you are looking for a kid’s desk with storage, here are a few options.

White Desk with File Drawers

This white desk is a great option for storage because it has 4 drawers.

You can buy some desk drawer organizers to really maximize the storage space.

This beautiful brown desk is perfect for a teen! It provides great storage and it has a cool industrial vibe with the locker drawer front!

My tween boy would love this desk!

Does your child want a lot of storage space. This gray desk features storage on top of the desk and adequate drawer space. It has a nice gray finish that would look good in bedroom.

Desks under $100

You can not beat the price on this large wood desk. For the cost of the desk, you could even stain or paint it to fit in with your decor. This desk provides ample surface space plus the under desk storage is really functional!

Another great desk under $100 is this industrial looking metal and wood one. I am strongly considering this desk for my boys. I would put two of these side-by-side for a long work space.

The only con of this desk option is that there is not closed storage space. You could use bins or baskets on the shelves to contain the clutter.

I love this brown desk that is under $100! It has two slots for storage and a large work space!

Last but not least, this simple industrial desk is under $100.

Student Desks for Small Spaces

If you need a desk for a small space, there are some fun options to consider. It is nice for kids to be able to have their own personal dedicated work space.

While this desk is small in size it does offer an ample amount of storage for school supplies. This white and metal option is sleek and could fit into small spaces.

This smaller size desk comes in three different bright colors. There are two drawers so your child can keep their writing utensils and papers.

It is a simple enough desk that it could grow with your child’s tastes as she gets older.

Here is another desk option for a small room that offers vertical storage!

This  white desk for students is for a really small space. But, it is a very functional option. There is a spot for computer cords to go through so you can keep them out of sight.

Options for Younger Kids

You might have decided to purchase a desk for your younger child and a large desk might be too big for him. There are some reasonably priced kid desks for young children.

This child desk option comes with both the desk and the chair.

For a simple and vintage desk idea, this metal and wood desk is so fun! It is a perfect desk option if you are looking for a small desk for your younger child.

Desk Chairs for Kids

In addition to a desk, you will also need a desk chair for your kid. Look for options that are comfortable and are designed for smaller bodies. Your kids may spend hours a day at their desks, so you want a chair that keeps them comfortable and is good support for their bodies.

Homework Station Essentials

Last but not least, to keep your kid’s homework area REALLY organized, it is good to invest in a few organization tools. My kids love having a dry erase calendar near their desks. They can write important deadlines and keep track of what day it is on their own.

This calendar set is so functional because you can just stick the squares on a wall. You can set create any set up you would like!

My kids also love having a personal Amazon Alexa. They use the Alexa to set reminders, as an alarm clock and to listen to music while they study.

Additionally, every organized desk needs a few desk supplies containers. Here are a few good desk organizer options:

As the kids head back to school soon, it is a great time to start the year on the right foot with an organized school work station. here are a lot of great deals right now on desk and school supplies, so it is perfect time to buy. Check out one of these best desks for kids!

Last year we got Zachary a table that is also a desk from Ikea. Simon just has a TV tray type table and he probably needs an actual desk!

Such great ideas, Jaclyn. I also get excited about creating student work areas…maybe it’s the teacher in me…or maybe it’s the fact that I absolutely loved this time of the year when I was younger. Okay, I’m lying, I still love shopping for supplies for myself! Pinning!

Love it! We had the same ideas in mind! We went with a kid-friendly desk for now, since our girls are little (Pre-K and K) and I️’m probably more excited than they are to get all the supplies organized! 🙂
