Happy Friday! This is the last weekend before my kids start school virtually. It certainly doesn’t seem like the usual start to the school year. Although this week, the kids did go to school to pick up all of their materials. So we did get a little sense of the realness of it all! The start of the school year is always a good time to get back into routines and I am ready for that! Bring on meal planning (me) and earlier bedtimes (the kids). Anyway, as usual, I am sharing some favorites in home, style and family.

Boys Shared Desk Space

Well, we are in the home stretch of the boys shared desk project. Here was our plan for the boys’ bedroom. Their room is very big so space is not an issue but we did have to do some rearranging to find the best way to use.

Gumball Machine // Navy Blue File Cabinets // Brown Faux Leather Computer Chairs // Black Metal Lamp // Black Lidded Glass Jar

Brown World Globe // Galvanized Wall Organizer // Hanging Wall Tapestry//

We purchased the cabinets from Ikea and this past week, my husband put them together. I will not lie, Ikea assemblies are not our favorite thing! But, these cabinets are really nice, so we are happy with them.

Next, we had to decide on a desk top. Because we needed  a top that measured 8 feet long, our options were very limited. Ikea does not make a desk top in that length. So, we went to Lowe’s to consider our options. We settled on a butcher block counter that was already cut to size. Then, my husband used a oil stain to get a darker color top.

One project leads to another and there are still several things to do. We moved the boys’ lockers to the other side of the room, so now we have to patch the wall where the locker was secured. Then, we will add wood shelves above the desk. Hopefully, we can finish all of this work before Monday when the kids start school!

Cozy Fall Styles

Last week, I mentioned that I bought several pairs of joggers from the Nordstrom Sale. Well, I ended up buying one more pair of joggers from Amazon and these might be my new favorite.

These pants are definitely the most like actual sweatpants. The joggers are thick and warm. I love this rust color but they do come in several colors. These pants will be perfect for cool days ahead.

Transitioning to Fall

With the start of back to school coming and the temperatures starting to get a little cooler in the morning, we are thinking about the fall season! This week, I shared two posts all about fall.

On Monday, I rounded up Fall Pillows that are under $!5.

Then, on Wednesday, I brainstormed Fall Activities you can do this year! Fortunately, despite the pandemic, there are still a lot of fall traditions you can still do! It is hard to see summer go, but it makes it easier knowing what a great season fall is!

I was able to find a Target that still had fall things in the Dollar bins! Yay! Hopefully, Target brings out more fall stuff soon.

Your boys’ desk area is coming out so nicely. I really like how the butcher block turned out. Gosh, summer buzzed by so fast, I’m hardly ready for fall!

Summer went too fast! At least we still have Labor Day weekend.

Good luck on Monday with virtual learning. It sounds like you guys are ready. I wasn’t able to get anything from the sale the NSale this year. By the time I was able to shop the one item I wanted was sold out. I was also able to get some cute goodies from Bull’s eye playground. I love that Target has something like that because they seriously have the cutest things!

I’m not sure what to do about Simon’s desk – there’s nothing available! Those file drawers you got are more expensive than I’d want to spend. Sigh. I love the joggers!

Check out Facebook Marketplace-I have seen several desks on ours-although they do go so fast.

I love the desk set up for your boys – it’s coming together really well!
I went to the Target near me a couple weeks ago and there wasn’t much in the Dollar Section. I was bummed, as I hadn’t been there in awhile. I’m hoping the next time I go they will have more Fall/Halloween items.

May I ask what kind of wood your butcher block is and what color stain you used? Did you seal it? How’s it holding up to writing and things? Does the wood dent easy or leave grooves from the kids writing on it?

      • Jaclyn on July 26, 2021 at 2:25 pm

We used a butcher block piece from Home Depot. It has held up great. My kids are good about writing on it and have not made any scratches. It is not that soft where it leaves dents or grooves. It is so easy to wipe off.

Thank you for the response. Do you remember if it was maple or pine or something else? Also wondering if you remember what color stain you used?
