Friday Favorites: Family Dinners, A Good Book & Binge Worthy Shows

Friday-Favorites-01.jpg (640×640)

I am linking up with Erika, Narci and Andrea for my second edition of Friday Favorites. These posts are so fun to read and I always find some inspiration from the other bloggers!

My first favorite is something we were able to start last weekend! Fall (aka Lazy) Sundays are the best. We usually don’t have many activities or commitments. So, most Sundays we try to cook a big dinner and eat mid day while watching football. Then we can go back to snack later in the day for a 2nd dinner.

This past Sunday we started off this tradition with chili dogs. Last month we went to a chili dog stand for the first time and the kids loved it. You truly feel like you are in a different era when you go to a place like this. So fun!

When we were there we thought about how we could recreate this meal at home. So Sunday we made chili, hot dogs and root beer floats. Not everyone liked chili so some of the kids just had a hot dog. I LOVE meals that everyone can find some part of it they like.

Another favorite is easy weeknight meals. I’ll be doing a meal planning post soon. For now, I wanted to share a fun meal  I just tried this week. We always have tacos on Tuesday. It makes meal planning easier by knowing a general theme for each weeknight. This past Tuesday I forgot to thaw any meat the night before. So I happened to be at Whole Foods and made a quick decision to pick up rotisserie chicken from the salad bar. I set out tortilla chips, cheese, veggies and avocado and let everyone top their chips. We warmed up each platter in the microwave to melt the cheese and we had the easiest meal. Sometimes easy and quick wins!

Another favorite is this book. My book club met this week and, if I’m being honest, its more of a catch up and have some wine club. But this month I actually read the book and loved it! It is a true story of a family (with very young children!) that sold their house and most of their belongings and traveled around the world for almost a year. It was truly inspiring and I had so much wanderlust. I don’t think I could be as brave as this family and pack it all up but it definitely made me think about  traveling more with the kids. I immediately was looking online at fun destinations to go with the family.

We just recently cut the cable cord! Eeks! I’ll get a post together soon–or probably a post from my husband on how we did it and what we use. We’ve been dragging our feet on getting rid of cable mainly because of sporting events. But we can get all the games with our new set up. Also, we still have Netflix, Amazon and all the network channels. My husband  and I are always on the hunt for a good show that we both like. It’s hard to find middle ground when one of us likes Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad type shows and the other spends more time watching the Bachelor, Real Housewives and anything Bravo. I’ll let you figure out which one of us likes what. But we have been binge watching a new show on Netflix. Anyone else been watching this? Anything with Jason Bateman is good! What are some other shows you and your spouse can agree on?

Finally, my last Friday Favorite is an inspiring article I read that was written by a family friend on the topic of girl friendships. For anyone with a young girl this will really hit home!

This weekend I’m hoping for a little bit of rest and catching up…we will see! Hope you all have a great one!

Fun blog! We too got rid of cable a few months ago & I don’t miss it most days. I watch a lot less tv. We still do Netflix & watch many channels through Sling. We’re currently watching Stranger Things which I’m surprised that I like.
