Friday Favorites: A Fun Family Activity, Favorite New Products for Curly Hair and Early Christmas Shopping

Friday-Favorites-01.jpg (640×640)

Happy Friday once again! It took us most of the week to recover from our road trip the past weekend so we are happy for the weekend! This week I’m linking up with Erika, Narci and Andrea for another edition of Friday Favorites.

I first wanted to talk about a fun activity the kids love to do which is Geocaching.  There is an app that you can download and play on your phone. Once you load the app, you create an account and then are able to start searching for the nearest geocaches. We still use the free version but there are additional geocaches you get to find if you use the paid version. It is great for kids because they learn about directions and using the phone as a compass. Also, it’s a good test of patience and perseverance because some of the caches are hard to find!

It is fun to do on trips because you get to be outside and explore the area. This last weekend, my daughter and I ended up with a little free time and she asked to geocache. We were able to locate two geocaches in fun locations. The containers at each hiding spot are always unique so it’s fun to see what we find! Depending on the size of the container, there are various little trinkets that people leave for each other. Anytime we take a treasure we make sure we leave something in return. This can be anything like a bouncy ball, coin or little toy. You also record your name in a log that is stored in the container. This particular day we found a medium size geocache which is harder to come by. So this was a total fun find!

Anytime we are at a park or in a new place,  the kids ask to play this app. So I highly recommend checking it out!

A fun find and a favorite this week is new hair products I bought at Ulta last week. I was stopping in for something else and happened to see this line of organic hair care products for curly hair.  I am always on the look out for new products to help tame my curls but that aren’t loaded with a ton of chemicals. These products are sulfate/paraben and silicone free.  I decided to try the sample pack because it came with smaller size versions of the shampoo, condition and hair gel. The bottles are actually a good size so they will last awhile. I was happy with the feel of the products on my hair and they did not weigh my curls down. Now that I’ve tried the products I’ll get the bigger sizes when I run out of these bottles. So for any curly haired readers out there, it’s worth trying!

Another favorite this week was decorating for Halloween. In case you missed it, check out my post on my newly decorated bar cart. I am all for keeping the holiday decorations easy and simple. Instead of trying to mix Fall with Halloween decorations all over the house, I decided to stick to one area to showcase our Halloween decor.

Another favorite of the week is buying my first Christmas gift of the season. Now, before you start thinking I’m crazy, let me tell you that I am generally not an early Christmas shopper. That’s my mom who has her list finished and gifts wrapped by Thanksgiving (or earlier). But me, I am always buying some gifts last-minute and second guessing my purchases until the very end! Usually around October I start finding a gift here and there and then do the bulk of my shopping around Thanksgiving. This game for my eight year old was too good to pass up. He absolutely loves Pokemon and he loves playing games. So this Pokemon Headbanz game will be a hit for him.

The last few years, I’ve been sure to buy an age appropriate game for each of the kids. I’ll share some of my Christmas gift ideas and the guidelines we use to buy the kids’ gifts in a post very soon!

Finally, a bonus fun Target find that I mentioned on IG stories…this hand soap is one of my very favorite fall finds. It smells exactly like the title says–Apple Cider. I feel like apple scents really turn a backseat to pumpkin a few years ago. So it’s nice to give apples some well deserved attention!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend and Happy October!
