Friday Favorites: A Big Birthday, House Guests and New Winter Scents

Friday-Favorites-01.jpg (640×640)

Cheers to FRIDAY! I am happy to be linking up with Erika, Narci and Andrea for Friday Favorites.  Hope you had a great week! My first FAVORITE is my little guy’s BIG birthday! I’m not going to lie, having my ‘baby’ turn 5 has been HARD. I seriously can’t believe that I don’t have babies or toddlers anymore. It is amazing (and bittersweet) to watch kids grow! #babiesdontkeep

So, despite my best efforts, my baby is five and we had a fun family celebration! We started with presents first thing in the morning. I posted a picture of one of his presents on my Instagram stories and it sounds like we aren’t the only ones that like these magic beads. They have the potential be a big mess…but if a toy can get hours of solo play I’m in! I set the beads up in our kitchen sink with some measuring cups and let the fun begin. In the summer I think it’ll be fun to use in our water table. This container will last forever. I used a tablespoon of beads and got a massive bucket full of them!

Another favorite gift were these mini Hatchimals. We never got into the big Hatchimals craze at Christmas last year. But these minis are so cute and much less expensive. My big kids were as interested in these as the 5 year old. You crack open the egg after you’ve held it in your hand for a few minutes.  I am already planning to get a few more as stocking stuffers.

It was a great day for the birthday boy which included going to preschool and having an ice cream playdate with his buddy. Birthdays are always so fun!

Another favorite of mine is friends coming to visit! Now that the birthday hoopla is over, we are getting ready for some out of town visitors this weekend. We love having guests!  A lot of our family and friends live out of state, so we entertain house guests pretty frequently.  It’ll be a fun weekend of Halloween festivities and hanging out at home with all of our kids.

On a side note, I am always on the hunt for recipes to serve a crowd. So please send any suggestions my way!! I often make BBQ Chicken Sandwiches or Tacos but some new ideas would be welcome!

Those M & M’s might already be gone–oops!

Another favorite–the new Mrs. Meyers winter scents hand soaps I spotted at Whole Foods. I might have jumped for joy when I saw these. I scooped both bottles right up as I never know if know if they will run out.

Iowa Pine & Peppermint

Finally, in case you missed my post yesterday, I shared a day in my mom life! It’s always fun to get a peek into other’s lives! Take a look and let me know what your days looks like!!

Hope you have a great weekend and see you back here next week!

Good luck with your house guests this weekend- can’t wait to read all about it! For a crowd, chili in a crock pot goes a long way. You can set up a “chili bar” with toppings too like sour cream, chives and cheese and serve cornbread on the side. Jimmy Fallon’s Crockpot Chili is on repeat in our house- great recipe and super simple! If you google it, you will find it in a flash- have a great weekend!

I noticed Target has the scents online -so hopefully they stick around for a while. I can’t wait to use them.

I love a day in the life post… I’ll go check it out! Chili would be an easy one, or a couple of lasagnas and a big salad.

I’ve been making meatball sliders to feed a crowd. I can easily make the meatballs in advance and keep them in the freezer. I simply take them out the night before. purchase 2 packs of 12 dinner rolls cut them in half. Spread marinara, top with meatball (just a bit larger than golf ball size), another Tablespoon of marinara some provolone cheese then top with the other half of the rolls. Melt a bit of butter with garlic, brush over top of rolls and bake at 375ºF for 20 minutes.
