Friday Favorites: Halloween Wrap Up, Thanksgiving Preparations and a Healthy Challenge

Happy Friday! It’s been a great week that started with all things Halloween and is coming to an end thinking about Thanksgiving. The next two months will fly by! Today, I’m linking up with Erika, Narci and Andrea for this week’s Friday Favorites!

Halloween Wrap Up

I feel like we’ve been celebrating Halloween for a month now! Does anyone else feel like Halloween is a way bigger deal now then when we were little?! Lucky for our kids!  We certainly scored a lot of candy this week. If you are anything like me, you are wondering what to do with ALL THE CANDY. Read my post from earlier in the week for tips on managing the candy haul!

Our house was a little divided on what to do with the candy. My daughter decided to donate to the troops and save some of the haul to throw in cookies and brownies. My boys subscribed to the ALL IN mentality so I’m hoping the requests for candy wears off after a few days.

Thanksgiving Preparations

I am so excited for my favorite few months of the year! On Wednesday, I share a super simple activity you can start today with family today to celebrate the season of giving thanks! Our chalkboard is filling up every day.

Another idea I started this week was writing thankful notes for the kids lunches. Usually I write a little note each day anyway, but this month I decided to write a reason why I’m thankful for each kid in their lunches every day. If you are short on time, these printable lunch box notes from Capturing Joy would be a hit too! I plan to print these out at use at the Thanksgiving kids’ table!

I’ve talked in a previous post about my routine of swapping out holiday books for each season and I just brought out our Thanksgiving books!  Next week I’ll share some of our other ways we are preparing for Thanksgiving.

Black Friday Excitement

Who else gets excited when Black Friday shopping ads get leaked?! This week the Black Friday Kohls ad was released which means that other stores’ deals will be released soon! Yay! The last few years, I’ve preferred to shop from the comfort of my home on Black Friday, but I’m always tempted to get out to the stores. I’ll see if I’m up to the craziness this year!

I’ve made a few more Christmas purchases this week including these glow in the dark Magnatiles. I’ve talked about my love of Magnatiles before, they are one of our most played toys! So, I know these will be a hit with my 8 and 5 year old boys!

Also, for my science and weather loving 5 year old, I found this Tornado Lab that I’m hoping is something he enjoys! It is really hard finding unique gifts for my youngest child as our house is already filled with plenty of toys. So I am always on the hunt for new and different things that aren’t like things we already have at home.
Healthy Holiday Challenge

I talked about an annual running challenge my husband and I do every November over on Instagram. We challenge each other to run one mile every day from November 1st until Christmas Day. It’s always fun and a favorite way to motivate ourselves (and each other) to engage in a healthy activity over the holidays. Some days we run or work out for longer and other days a mile is all we can fit in. But, at least we get moving every single day. What’s a healthy habit you plan to do this holiday season?

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and see you back here next week!

Does your town have a Turkey Trot? Running Daddy and Hockey Guy run the one in our town every year!

Jaclyn, I love the thankful notes idea. So perfect! We have a town Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning and our entire family goes- it is a really fun tradition AND it gets our metabolism going before the big day of food 🙂

Yes, Halloween is pretty much a month long thing in our house too. Countless parties & different areas of the city having businesses host trick or treat on different days added to the fun. My girls are younger, but I grabbed all the candy that they wouldn’t like or would be too hard on their teeth and threw it in our handout bucket. Then they donated 15 pieces each to the troops. They are allowed a piece a day, but must donate a piece with each piece they eat. My one daughter is super sweet, but has such a hard time being generous with her belongings so I’m hoping this will be good practice!

Love your challenge of running every day! That’s awesome. I totally need to do that too!
