Today, we are back to the Clear the Clutter Challenge! We are tackling one space per month for the entire year!  Last month we worked on photo organization. This month we worked on bathrooms. I focused on kids bathroom organization for this challenge!

Before we get started, I am so excited that we have two new hosts joining us for the challenge, Holly from Coordinator of Chaos and Morgan from Morganize with Me. Both of these ladies share a lot of organization tips on their blogs, so I know they will have LOADS of good tips for all of us.

Clear the Clutter: Bathrooms

I must admit that we are fortunate in that we’ve got two bathrooms for the kids–one for my daughter and one for the two boys. Lots of space for everyone to spread out…or collect a lot of stuff in their spaces! Neither bathrooms were in awful shape, but both had items that they didn’t need or use. So we cleared things out and gave them both a good cleaning!

It’s taken some trial and error but I have found certain systems and organization tools that have worked to maintain order in the bathrooms!

5 Tips for Kids Bathroom Organization

Hang Towels on Hooks

Hooks are my number one FAVORITE organization essential for the bathroom! Even the youngest of my kids is able to hang there towels on hooks, so we don’t have towels all over the floor! Hooks can also be used for bathing suits and robes. Our master bathroom is so small that we only can use hooks! I prefer it though, towels dry so much faster on hooks!

I absolutely love these metal letter hooks that I got from Anthropologie for the boys bathroom. There are so many adorable hooks out there, that it is easy to combine function with great style!

Even easier with these letter hooks–each child knows which hook is his! Clean towels are stored on the towel bar and we swap with the used ones on the hook.

Utilize Baskets & Bins to Organize Essentials

We’ve got baskets and bins in all of our bathrooms! First things first, you want to cut down on the amount of ‘stuff’ you have so you have less of a need for so many bins. But once, you have your bathroom items pared down, storage containers are essential for keeping things organized!

We use bins in drawers to keep hair supplies organized.

We use bins on top of the toilets for extra toilet paper.

How to Organize Small Kids Bathroom

Bins are perfect for storing items on the counter.

Use Shelves to Display Decor and Put Less Used Items up High

For small bathrooms, shelving is a great option to store toiletries and small towels. Or you can use shelves to add some decor elements into the room.

White Floating Shelves

My daughter has a hook and shelf combo! As a swimmer, she has a lot of suits and towels, so having all these hooks is perfect. Her shelf is used for displaying her beach memories including her found sea glass in the clear jar.

Display Decorative Containers on Counters for Toiletries

There are some things you need to reach all the time and these are the items to display on the counter. For my kids, out of site is out of mind. So if the toothbrushes were put away, they would forget to use them! My boys have a galvanized container to store their toothbrushes and floss. This container is easy to access and attractive to have on the counter.

Clear glass or plastic jars are another great option for counter storage. You can store cotton balls, Q tips and hair accessories in these jars!

Store Cleaning Supplies in Bathroom

Another game changing essential for the bathroom is cleaning supplies! If you have room for this, I highly recommend storing bathroom cleaning supplies in each of your bathrooms. I find that I clean the bathrooms more frequently when the supplies are right there for me. I store all of the cleaning supplies in a bucket or caddy, so they are easy to grab! Mom hack: Clean the bathroom while your child is taking a bath!!

Minimize Toys and Toiletries

I’ve realized that kids need very few toys in the bath to be content! So for this challenge, I cut down on the toys we had to just the basics (some water bottles and boats!). Get rid of toys that are moldy and old and keep the favorites. It is a lot easier to clean up after baths when you just have a few toys!

Also, it is essential to clear out unused and old toiletries. Really take a look at what you need and what you have and get rid of the excess!

Thanks Holly! Less is better…although that sometimes takes my kids a bit of convincing!

I love hooks for towels! I use over-the-door hooks in our smallest bathroom for even more space savings. And I’ve forgotten how much room tub toys take 🙂 I’m glad I’m past that phase.
