Happy Wednesday! I am participating in a fun link up up with Shay, Sheaffer, and Mel for What’s up Wednesdays. It’s nice to look back on the month and review some of our April Favorites! Anyone else feel like this month flew by?!
What we’re eating this week….
The mom struggle is real with my picky eaters. I have a hard time breaking out of the rut of basics like tacos and pasta. When I do try “new to them” recipes, I am met with concern and groans about the meal in front of them. Can anyone relate?!
Anyway, I just started following Veggies and Virtue on Instagram and I am obsessed with all of her ideas! I’ve been getting so much inspiration on getting kids to eat a variety of foods. As a registered pediatric dietitian, she shares her realistic approaches to helping kids eat healthy. I love her technique to include foods on the plate that cover three categories: Love it, Like it and Learning it.
So this week, I have been building the kids plates around the three categories.
This new approach will be a work in progress and I’m not expecting miracles! I’ll keep you posted!
What I’m reminiscing about…
This month was jam packed with fun activities, especially with Easter and Spring Break thrown in the mix.
Easter already seems like ages ago!
Spring Break in D.C. was one of our most memorable family trips. It was so fun exploring a new city!
We wrapped up this month with some time at the beach on Earth Day.
Beach days are the best days…summer can’t get her soon enough!
What I’m wearing…
April started off with a HUGE clothing purge and it felt so good paring down my clothes to items I actually want to wear.
I recently shared my latest Trendsend box and I am waiting for this weather to turn so I can start wearing spring clothes!
I’ve gotten a chance to wear my favorite new striped tee.
I love my little photo bomber…
I have a weakness for fun clutches and I was so excited to come across this Sole Society one last week! It will coordinate with so many things this summer! It’s bigger than I expected but I love that it comes with a chain so that I can also be a cross body purse!
I wasn’t all that familiar with the purse offerings of Sole Society but I have now been down the rabbit hole on Nordstrom’s website –so many fun and affordable options! My purse is currently sold out–bummer.
What I’m dreading…
Well, I mentioned this last month, but our next Clear the Clutter Challenge is GARAGE ORGANIZATION! I still need to get to this project…hopefully this weekend! This graphic about spring cleaning sums up my feelings perfectly (especially #2 and #4)!!
I’m also dreading the END OF SCHOOL YEAR and all that comes with it. The goodbyes, the parties and the mad rush to pack all the final activities in–it’s sad, stressful and exciting all at the same time!
The first day of school feels like a minute ago!!
Next fall, my oldest heads over to middle school next year (6th grade) and my youngest goes to Kindergarten. So, goodbyes at their respective schools will be SAD! No more kids in preschool for me! I can barely handle it.
What I’m looking forward to…
One word: SUMMER!
As much as I am dreading end of the year hoopla, I am more excited for days at the pool and beach! This winter has been dragging long enough!
What I am working on….
I’ve got some fun posts lined up in the next few weeks. Next Monday, I’ll share some fairy garden inspiration. We’ve been creating fairy gardens for YEARS, so I’ll got some tips and ideas!
This was one of our first ever fairy gardens from six years ago!
Also, it’s that time of year to get a handle on all of the kids paperwork and art projects. Our June Clear the Clutter Challenge is kids’ school work, so I am trying to get a jump start on that task! Ugh!!
What I am reading…
I’m feeling kind of proud of myself for reading two books this month. I think I read a total of 10 books in 2017. Mom life and blog work usually take priority, but I am trying to carve out a little more time for some unplugged time with a book!
My FAVORITE book I’ve read all year is one of the books I read this month: We Were the Lucky Ones. I can’t believe I allowed myself to read another emotional WWII book after I had just finished The Nightingale. But We Were the Lucky Ones was a great read! It is an actual true account of a Jewish family living in Poland during WWII.
The other book I read was a much quicker read: The Light We Lost. It wasn’t exactly a “light” read, but the writing style made for a quick read. It was an interesting book and I can’t say that I’d highly recommend it but I did find it captivating.
I finally caved and got a Nook for myself (early Mother’s Day present..ha ha!) I went with a Nook Glowlight versus a Kindle Paperweight because my daughter just got a Nook and loves hers. Which also means she can help me set up my Nook #technicallychallenged. Also, as my daughter pointed out, the Nook can go in the bath and the Kindle can not! Are you #teamhardcover or #teamereader??
**********************************************************
Well, that about wraps up my April highlights! The days can be long but the weeks and months FLY BY!
See you back here for FRIDAY FAVORITES!
I like the meal approach!! I would be all over what you served!!!
I totally agree with the stages of spring cleaning. That’s all me!
Have a great one! – Shannon @slayitagainshan.com
I thought that was a good depiction of most of us during spring cleaning:)
LOVE the meal project- please keep us posted on what you try that works- same problem in these parts! Thank you for the book recommendations too- always looking for the next great book!
Fingers crossed we make some progress and lots of veggies are in our future…lol.
I feel the exact same way about the end of the school year! May is always crazy!
At least there is a reward for all the craziness of may—SUMMER!
We love Veggies and Virtue! She has been so helpful for our picky eaters 🙂
That’s great to hear! I am loving everything she shares!
I love the idea of having 3 Ls for the kids to eat from. They do amazing with veggies when we get our CSA in the summer but other than that we get stuck in veggie ruts.
I love your Spring cleaning graphic. It’s soooo true!
A definite YES to this winter dragging on and on and on… I can’t wait for pool days!!!
Your review of The Light We Lost is spot on. It really was captivating but I can’t bring myself to recommend it. It just didn’t sit right with me somehow although I can’t put my finger on it.
And I am #teamrealbook all the way. I just can’t get into reading on a device.
You summed it up well with the light we lost…doesn’t exactly sit well!! Thanks for popping over here!! 🙂
We Were the Lucky Ones was one of my two top book picks for 2017! Such a good one! I found your blog through Shay’s link up…including coffee & pancakes in the title made me click! 🙂
That book really will stick with me. Thanks so much for stopping by…cheers on the love of coffee:)
Hooray for a super fun month and summer quickly approaching! You are so right, beach days are the best days!
The picky eating got Better for us in the last year. I hope it will for you too!
