Cheers to Friday! Although doesn’t every day feel like Friday in the summer?! Today, as usual, I am sharing my favorites of the week and I am linking up with Erika, Narci and Andrea for Friday Favorites.
Finding Our Summer Groove
My family and I really jumped right into summer mode! We have been busy checking things off of our summer fun list.
Seriously though, as much as I have vowed to have a low-key summer, we have been pretty busy! It kind of just is how summer is…some days on the go and some days very carefree and relaxing.
In the last week, we went strawberry picking…
I’ll admit that we have enjoyed ice cream a few times..
Not to mention, we also visited the pool and started summer swim team, spent a day of service at a refugee community center and snuggled some animals at our local APL. Phew, we are tired!
Yesterday, I shared our daily summer schedule and the things that we do to have some structure to our days. As I mentioned, this is a very flexible schedule and there are some days that we don’t get to everything on the list. But, the summer schedule at least provides us with some ideas to how we approach our days.
We have been good about our new chore system! It is so simple and basic but that is why I think it is working. Each day the kids all pick a popscicle stick out of the chore jar. When they are done with the chore they put the stick in the other mason jar.
Completing one chore is just a family responsibility and not tied to any incentive. However, screen time can be earned for extra chores! So far no one has taken me up on the extra chores. But honestly that is okay because the less screen time they get, the better!
While our overall daily flow is going well, I will admit that I am still working on finding my groove. Can anyone relate?? I am off of my laundry and grocery shopping game! True story, the other day one of the kids yelled from their room that they didn’t have any shorts to wear–oops! Good thing I had actually done a small load that had one pair of shorts cleaned!!
Even with not making it the grocery store during the week, we have gotten back to our weekly dinner themes! This is the schedule we followed throughout the school year. Now that it is summer, we do a lot more grilling and not much in the crockpot.
On Wednesday, we had our usual breakfast for dinner. I made these Cinnamon Rolls from Money Saving Mom. So yummy!! I had to dust off my bread machine and now I’m planning on using it a lot more this summer.
Clear the Clutter Challenge
On Monday, we picked back up with the Clear the Clutter Challenge by sharing our ideas for School Paperwork Organization! I shared my absolute favorite way to store school papers for each of the kids. This extra-large file folder stores all of the kids favorite papers and art from the school year!
Keri and I are working behind the scenes on some exciting updates to the Challenge! This month, we created a printable checklist for e-mail subscribers that breaks down the monthly challenge into easy steps! If you haven’t grabbed your copy, be sure to sign up as a subscriber (and then check out my free printables tab under Additional Resources!).
New Healthy Snack
I know I am not alone in this but my kids want to eat all day long in the summer! I’ve even found that I’ve been snacking more too! Recently we were sent Quinn Snacks Popcorn to try. I love this microwave popcorn because it is non-gmo, no preservatives and no hydrogenated oils. The microwave bag is even compostable!!
The best part about these snacks it is a healthy option that my kids can make on their own!! We are working on some independence this summer on meal and snack preparations!
We all have our favorites! I love the Rosemary and Sea Salt flavor and the Truffle Butter is a VERY close second favorite! The kids love the Real Butter Movie Style, Cheddar and Sea Salt and Just Sea Salt.
Thank you so much to Quinn Snacks for providing us with this healthy snack!
Another favorite of the week is discovering that my 5 year old loves yoga! The bedtime struggle is real at our house especially since it is light out when he goes to bed! (Sometimes it’s light out when I go to bed–ha ha!)
So we’ve been watching some videos on YouTube right before bed and it has been working wonders on our bed time routine! He actually asks to head up to bed so we can do our videos! I let him pick out a couple as most are only 3-4 minutes long.
Even though it adds one more thing to our bedtime routine, it actually has helped make the process smoother and quicker. We’ve gotten less requests for extra stories and less resistance in going to bed. WIN!
That about sums up our week. Our daughter leaves for sleepaway camp on Sunday–boohoo for us but yay for her! Happy Father’s Day to my hubby, my dad, my stepdad & father-in-law! Hope all of you have a wonderful weekend celebrating the dads in your life!
