Happy Wednesday! Today, I am back chatting front door style for the fall! We are slowly making seasonal changes on both the inside and outside of our house. Last week, we said goodbye to our summer flowers and potted some colorful mums. I love decorating for the fall…it’s the perfect excuse to make the house cozy and inviting. Today I’ll share a few fall farmhouse porch ideas that will get your house festive and welcoming.

Fall Farmhouse Porch Ideas
The plan is to update the porch with a few fall seasonal touches. I am working with several things we already own. Also, this weekend we have a trip to the pumpkin patch, so hopefully I can pick up more pumpkins in various sizes and shapes!
I will admit that I have a very small porch to work with. However, I am thankful that it is covered porch as it allows me to have things protected from the elements (like lanterns, pillow, etc.). Here is a glimpse of what our porch currently looks like. We are sort of trapped between summer and fall with our summery rattan star and then our new fall mums:)
Front Porch Essentials
There are so many elements you can add to your front porch, so it helps to have a game plan. Here are some of the items I am planning to include on our fall porch.
This past spring, we put a rocking chair on our front porch. If you’ve got any room on your front porch, I highly recommend adding a rocking chair! The porch is now the perfect spot to wait for the kids to come home from school or to catch a few minutes of peace and quiet. The kids are often caught out on the rocking chair reading a book or waiting for a friend to pick them up:)
I picked up our rocking chair at a garage sale a few years ago and gave it several coats of spray paint. I’m considering painting it black as it could use a new coat of paint anyway. What do you think?
Layered Door Mat
If you pop into any home decor store, you’ll see buffalo plaid everywhere! It doesn’t seem to go out of style (I’m not complaining!). The layered front door mat look is super popular right now! I picked up our black and white (not buffalo check) doormat at Target last year.
We do need to replace our top layer door mat and I love this hello fall one!
If you are looking to add a little rustic/farmhouse feel, than a wood sign would be a perfect accessory. It is also nice to break up all the color from the flowers and pumpkins with a different texture and element. I have a small pumpkin sign that I bought from Homegoods last year but I also love the bigger wood signs I have seen around.
Outdoor Pillows and Blankets
If you have any sort of seating like an adirondack chairs or a rocker, than I recommend adding a pillow or blanket. Not only is it cozy but also functional to have pillows and blankets! I was worried how the pillows would hold up outdoors but I haven’t had any issues with them getting wet. If it’s raining really badly and I happen to notice, I will bring in the pillows.
I’m still undecided if I’ll keep my current pillows I have on display now or if I will try to update with something more fall inspired. I love this outdoor pillow with the pumpkin design.
This pillow would look adorable paired with orange buffalo check pillows!
Another inexpensive idea would be to use a colorful plaid blanket scarf instead of a big blanket! Some blanket scarves are almost as big a blanket!
Lanterns are also a great option to add a different texture onto the porch. You can fill lanterns with pumpkins and twinkle lights. Or put flameless, battery operated candles into the lanterns for some pretty porch lighting.
Wreathes, Flowers & Pumpkins
Of course, what porch is complete without a wreath, some flowers and pumpkins. As I mentioned, we have already decorated with a few mums.
Because the mums bring so much color to the porch, I may opt for a less busy wreath like this one from the Hearth and Hand collection at Target.
It’s fun to pick out real pumpkins from a pumpkin patch, but does anyone agree that real pumpkins can get expensive. Or is it just my kid who wants to the 20 pound pumpkin?!
My mom mixes in faux pumpkins with a couple of real ones and I think I’m going to do the same this year. It might be more expensive this year to purchase a few nice faux pumpkins but hopefully they will last for a few years.
I’ve spotted a few big pumpkins at Marshalls and Homegoods. Although this extra large one from Pier One is so pretty!
Finally, the idea of rocking on the porch with coffee in hand and snuggled under a warm blanket sounds wonderful! A mom can dream! Of course I have my favorite fall Rae Dunn Mugs. But this mug is too cute!

Despite the hot temperatures here, I am still dreaming about fall. I am going to finish up our porch this weekend and I will be sure to share updates with you once I’m finished!
