It has been a LONG time since I have written a day in the life post! I like reading this kind of posts from other bloggers because it is always interesting to see how everyone’s lives are similar and also different. It is also fun to look back at my older day in the life posts and see how things have changed. Even if you are not a blogger, it’d be a fun thing to document in a journal or diary! Anyway, here is a peak into a day in my little corner of the world. This week is a fairly typical one although the Valentine’s holiday makes it a bit more hectic! But this day started out normal and then got pretty crazy. I can laugh about it now…sort of:)
Day in the Mom Life
6:15 Wake Up Time
My alarm goes off. This month, I have been trying to get up before the rest of the family so I can get a head start to the day. Usually I have some time to myself until the kids and my husband get up at 7. However, my littlest guy decided to wake up early too. So much for getting much done! He requested some snuggle time and proceeded to chat with me until it was time to wake everyone else up!
7:00 Breakfast, Lunch Prep and Coffee Time
I wake up the kids, get started on their breakfast and get the coffee brewing. My boys eat oatmeal every single morning and my daughter usually has toast. I remember to get out everyone’s vitamins. I’d say we remember to take them about 75% of the time. I started the kids on these Elderberry vitamins this winter. I’ve been hearing so much about Elderberry including Elderberry syrup. I know realistically my kids are much more likely to eat a chewy vitamin than a syrup.
Also, I pick out some essential oils and I get the diffuser going. I have been diffusing thieves (good for immunity support) all winter long. Do you notice a theme of immunity building here?!
I finish up the kids lunches. Ideally the kids make their own lunches, but lately I have been helping them out. I don’t mind too much because I love coming up with things to put in their bento boxes! We just got these snack size bento style boxes from Stuck on You! I like that they are a little bit smaller, so you can still fit other items into the lunch bag like an apple or yogurt tube.
Normally, I have the dishes cleaned up from the night before…or I should say my husband usually cleans up the dishes. But he is out of town and I had my friend over for dinner the night before. So, this morning I have some clean up!
7:40 Goodbyes, Bus Stop and Coffee
Lunches are packed! Two out of three of the kids head out the door. I realize I haven’t had my cup of coffee yet, but as I walk over to grab some, I see that my 4th grader forgot to bring his Valentine’s Day box. I scoop up my little guy and we jump in the car and drive down to the bus stop with the forgotten item.
Back home and I finally get a sip of that coffee. My little guy watches a cartoon before it’s time for him to get ready for school. I sit down with my coffee and look over what I need to get done for the day.
I look over a contract for an event we are attending later in the day. It is so fun to attend local events as a blogger! But there are a lot of behind the scenes and after the event work that needs to be done. I look over all of the requirements and asks from the company I am working with so I make sure know what I need to do.
8:15 Kindergarten Bus and Breakfast
My little guy likes to wait until the very last minute to get ready. So ten minutes before the bus comes, we get him dressed and pick out his snack. One of my favorite time saving tips for school mornings is to keep hair supplies by the front door! I wait until the very end to brush the boys hair and I know at least (for a moment) their hair looks OK. Although, I know as soon as those hats and hoods go on their heads, their hair is a mess again!
Every day he likes to blow me kisses before he gets on the bus. I hope this routine never ends 🙂
Now all three kids are at school! Phew. It’s time for me to figure out what to have for breakfast. I’m going to be honest, that I am in a bit of a breakfast rut. Lately, I usually grab a protein bar or a slice of toast with avocado.
9:00-12:00 Laundry, Blog and Chores
I sure miss the kids when they are at school. But the three hours I have to myself goes by SO FAST! As soon as they leave for school, I get a load of laundry started. I’ve been trying to do a load a day instead of all of our laundry on one day of the week. So far, this system is working out well! Then, usually I work out with either my husband or I meet a friend or two at the gym. Today, I was on my own, so I decided to work out later in the day and use the morning to get stuff done.
Once I finished up with blog work and chores, I decided to make a quick after school snack. I made these no bake homemade granola bars from 365 Days of Baking. This recipe takes less than 10 minutes and is a lot healthier than any boxed granola found at the grocery store. So yum!
12:00 -2:30 Lunch, Soccer and Errands
My kindergartner gets home! We have lunch and chat:) He has a bagel and I have some leftover sweet potato and black bean enchilada filling. This dressing my friend recommended to me in so good!
After lunch, we head to our gym for a soccer class. I work out while the little guy play soccer.
Then it’s time to run a few errands including the post office, pharmacy and Aldi. I spotted these pretty succulents at Aldi!
I didn’t buy the succulents but I did get a Money Tree! The plant looked fun and who can resist trying to grow a money tree?!
I also grabbed a these storage bins (a set of 2 for 3.99) and a few other staples.
We enjoy an afternoon snack! (Hummus and crackers) Then, while my little guy worked on his class Valentine’s Day cards, I took a quick shower and “got dressed’ for the day.
2:30-4:00 A “Slight” Hiccup to the Day
The big kids arrived home.
So here is where the day got a little nutty! I wish I didn’t have to admit this embarrassing story, but since I am sharing my day I got to let you know about it!
I locked my keys IN MY CAR….WHILE MY CAR WAS PARKED IN OUR GARAGE. Yup, my car does not have a sensor when you leave keys in the car. Ugh and Ugh! Timing could NOT BE WORSE as our evening was jam packed. My husband was out of town too!
I had to make a very quick decision to take an Uber to our evening event–a Grand Reopening Event at Chuck E Cheese’s. As this was a blogger event, I did not want to cancel or arrive late! I had to get my daughter squared away on her activities before I left with the boys.
4:00-7:00 Chuck E Cheese’s Grand Reopening
Our car situation was quickly forgotten once we got to Chuck E Cheeses. The boys were immediately off and running and I had to work hard to keep up with them. Is there anything more exciting in a kid’s life than winning a zillion game tickets?!
Our dinner was made easy with all the pizza!
7:00 Bedtime Prep Dinner and Police Visit
Once we got home from Chuck E Cheeses, the kids unloaded all of their goodies and I caught up with my daughter. Then it was time for showers for all the kids.
I realized I still had my keys locked in my car! I’m grateful for a dear friend whose husband is on the local police force. A quick message to her and her husband was able to send out a policeman to the house. Within minutes of the policeman’s arrival, my keys were rescued! Crisis averted!
8:30 Netflix, Tea & Blogging
Everyone watched a little TV and then it was time for the kids go to bed. After everyone was tucked in, I quickly cleaned up the kitchen.
I made myself some tea and finished up some blog work.
Lastly, I ended the night with TV. Since I was on my own, I watched the season premiere of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
It was a full day and thankfully everything ended up working out just fine! Here’s to hoping for a less eventful Wednesday!
