Mother Daughter Shopping Trip

If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen that my mom and I went on our annual mother daughter shopping trip. We missed out last year, so it was so good to be back to this tradition.

Some years, I have taken a lot more pictures of our trip, but we were so focused on shopping. Truth be told, we did not find as many things as usual. The stores are definitely lacking in inventory. Even if we liked something, they didn’t always have our sizes. But we still found many good things including some Christmas gifts.

One of my favorite finds was this pair of waterproof Sorel boots. This is my third pair of Sorel boots and I still wear my first pair.

When you live in the Midwest, it pays to invest in a good pair of winter boots. I love that these boots are easy to sleep on and roomy enough to wear with a thick pair of socks.

Black and White Christmas Decor

One of my favorite parts of our trip was checking out all of the seasonal decorations at the home stores. The stores are already decorated for the holidays and it is nice to get some inspiration. I love the black and white Christmas decorations I am seeing everywhere.

Since I already have so much holiday decor, I am trying to use what I have. I definitely have a lot of black accents that I can tie into Christmas decorations. One of the few Christmas decoration I came home with was this Christmas doormat from Kirklands.

Fair Isle Outdoor Doormat

I love changing things up for the holidays on our small porch.  The color scheme is similar to what I came up with last year, but this year, I think I will use my black and white outdoor rug underneath the Christmas doormat.

There were a  few other black and white Christmas decorations that caught my eye. I love all of these black and white Christmas signs from Kirklands. I love the pop of red signs too!

This black and white Christmas tree sign is so pretty!

While I do not need any Christmas pillows, these are all so festive! The black and white tree pillows remind me of these inexpensive pillow covers that I got last year.

A few of these black vases with greenery would look really pretty on a mantel or table top. I just might try to make something similar with vases I have on hand. I bet the Dollar Store has some greenery that would be similar to this.

We also saw a lot of black and white Christmas decor at Crate and Barrel. I LOVE these zinc nutcrackers. My youngest son likes to collect a new nutcracker each year. I do not think he would go for one like this, but I would love a couple of them to put on the mantle.

These zinc reindeers were displayed on a pretty Christmas tablescape at the store.

On the flip side, we did see some colorful Christmas decorations. I almost forget that I did also get a few colorful ornaments for our basement playroom Christmas tree.  Last year, I just used colorful garland to decorate the small tree. So, these colorful star ornaments will be a perfect addition.

Also, if we keep the Christmas tree up until New Year’s Eve, these disco ball ornaments will fit in perfectly. I will put them out for Christmas but I had NYE in mind when I bought them.

That is about it for this week’s Friday Favorites. Tonight, my husband and the kids will be carving their pumpkins! My role is to roast the pumpkin seeds and make the Hot Dog Mummies for dinner!
