Day in My Mom Life Spring Edition
Hello there! It is entirely coincidental, but this week I decided to write a day in the life post and I discovered it’s been six months EXACTLY since I posted my last day in the life post! These type of posts are some of my favorites to read on other blogs. It is so interesting to see how much all of our days are different, yet the same in some aspect! So here you go, a Day in My Mom Life Spring Edition!
6:40 I wake up and head to the kitchen to grab a cup of cold coffee! I’ve been trying to get up earlier than this so I can have more time on my own but it has not been happening! I spend the next 15 minutes reading e-mails, browsing my Pinterest and Instagram. It’s a bit sad, but I had to turn on the fire in APRIL! BRR!
6:55 Time to wake everyone up (including my husband)!! The next hour is a flurry of breakfast, getting dressed and heading out the door!
Maybe it’s just me, but I find those moments the kids are still waking up, bed head and all, are the sweetest parts of the day.
I’m a morning person, so I try to get as much done when I have the energy as I can. Which means, while the kids eat breakfast I am folding laundry:)
I have recently handed over the lunch making reigns to the kids and let me tell you it is a GAMECHANGER! This frees up 15 minutes of my morning and now the kids have autonomy in making their own lunches. I am happy with the healthy choices the kids make on their own. It is a win win!!
It’s always a little bit of a mad dash those final moments of getting out the door–hair brushing, finding coats and gloves, etc!
This hour before school and the hour after the kids get home from school are the CRAZIEST of the day!
7:45 And they are off! Phew, now this mama can breathe! My little guy is off to playing with his Legos and I can make my breakfast.
I eat the same thing pretty much every morning: two eggs with spinach, salsa and guacamole, sweet potatoes and fruit!
This is also the time I grab my first cup of HOT coffee that my husband made for us! I LOVE french press coffee! It takes just a couple of minutes longer than the coffee maker but it is so good!
I usually spend a little time on blog work here if my five year old is content to play on his own. Of all of my kids, my youngest wants me to play with him all of the time! He doesn’t have a sibling home with him all day (Unlike my older two kids who had each other when they were little), so I get it.
9:00 Time to workout! Lately, my friend has come over to do the T 25 program together. I am much more committed to working out when I have a buddy! I love that T 25 is only twenty-five minutes–very achievable!
10:00 My little guy loves going to the gym to see all of his buddies. So we head over to the rec center and I end up walking the track while he is in the day care. Normally I am not up for two workouts a day, but it was nice to get out of the house! I planned to stay at the gym a little longer and do a little blogging work. But by the time I was done with the track and chatting with friends I ran into, it was already after 11 and was time to get home!

My little guy holding the door for me. I’ll miss him next year when he heads to Kindergarten!
11:30 I finish up my now cold cup of coffee that I started earlier and make lunch! Today, as in most days, it’s a little bit of everything I have in the fridge. I pretty much have guacamole at every meal:)
My new favorite after lunch treat are these granola bites I picked up at Whole Foods.
12:15 It’s time for preschool! We head over to school and wait in line. We always play eye spy while we wait!
12:30-2:30 The next two hours are a mad dash to get in as much done as I can. I shower, straighten up the house and spend time blogging. Normally, I’d try to fit in a few errands too but I got all of my running around done the day before. The best time of day to take pictures in my house is the afternoon, so I snapped a few pictures while the sun was shining and the house was clean!
I get asked about when I find the time to blog. Most days it’s an hour here and there! I try to at least spend an hour per day that my son is at preschool (three days a week). But the reality is I mostly fit it in after bedtime, early in the mornings or on weekends. It all adds up to 20+ hours a week!
Sometimes I get wrapped up in what I am doing that I don’t have time to shower until later in the evening. But today, I cut my chores and blogging a little early so I can get out of my workout clothes. It’s amazing how much better I feel when I get myself dressed and into a cute outfit for the day!
2:30 Preschool pick up time! That went fast! As we pull in the driveway, we spot a TON of bunnies in our yard. We are officially on bunny baby watch with all of the bunnies we’ve been seeing in our yard! These bunnies seem to be taking residence in our raised garden beds. It looks like the planting of our garden may be delayed a bit!

Can you spot three bunnies??
2:55 The calm before the storm! I get my little guy a snack and a show and then I get ready for the big kids!
3:00 This is where the crazy part of the day begins! It’s funny because when the kids were all babies and toddlers, we would run around all day but our evenings would be calm. Now, as the kids are older and involved in activities, it is the evenings that are absolutely CRAZY! My five year old and I keep our days pretty laid back!
My middle guy and I chat about his day. I’ve got one kid who loves to come home and tell me everything and one kid who loves a little quiet time after school. It’s funny how kids are all so different!
While the kids do their homework, I work on the blog (specifically this post since it’s a day in the life!).
4:30 I start dinner preparations. The kids have activities that require some of us to be out the door at 5:30, so we usually eat early at 5:00. While I was making dinner, I caught a rare glimpse of the Big and Little playing together.
My middle asks me to check him out on his new Ninja Line that we got at Christmas and just set up this past weekend.
Today, as in most days, I keep the meal simple! For this particular meal, we have breakfast for dinner! It’s a meal that EVERYONE will eat and I don’t get any complaints.
5:30 The boys get ready for Taekwondo and my daughter and I head out the door to her swim practice.

Nothing cuter to me than brothers in matching uniforms:)
6:30 Time for some mom self care! I head to my once a month book club. If I’m being honest, we have more aptly named our group a Wine Club as we spend more time catching up over wine than discussing a book. In the last week, I’ve read The Light We Lost and We Were the Lucky Ones, so at least I could say that I did read something!
It was a fun evening and always a nice respite for putting the kids to bed. Whoever said it gets easier putting kids to bed does not know my kids. Bigger kids equals bigger requests…more stories, more snuggles, anything to drag out the process. So I know by the time I get home, my husband will just be finished getting all of the kids to bed.
9:00 It’s time to wrap up the day and get ready for bed! My oldest is not asleep when I get home, so I snuggle with her for a bit. Then, I have some blog work to finish up and then I catch up with my husband (who was watching the Cavs game).
I get a feeling of contentment at night time when I’ve got a clean kitchen and three kids asleep in bed!
Overall, this wasn’t too crazy of a day. When my husband is out of town, which is 5 or 6 times a month, my days are certainly more hectic. But I’m embracing this season of life because I know it does not last forever.

After I finished this post, I went back and read my last day in the life post. It was entirely coincidental that I wrote this post today EXACTLY since months ago from this last post!! I realized how much of a creature of habit I am–I woke up at the same time, ate the same breakfast and had a lot of the same habits Ha! Anyway, I’d love to hear from you–how is your day different or the same? I’ll be back tomorrow for Friday Favorites!
I loved reading this and getting a glimpse into your life- you accomplish a lot! 🙂
You ate so productive with your time! I am working on also being really intentional with my time! This was a fun post to read!
Busy mom of 3, just like I was. Now it’s busy tho’ kids are grown. 6:30am I greet the grands 2-3 Days/Week & get them fed & off to schools. Then to YMCA to workout. Shop (of course)! Walk with friends. Fix dinner. Repeat…
What a great busy schedule! Your breakfast looks so good!
Thanks Ashley…got to start the day off right..ha ha!
Your day sounds a lot like my day, mama! LOL! 🙂
I’m sure it is Rachel…phew! Hope you are hanging in your final months of pregnancy!!
