Simple and Rustic Thanksgiving Table Decor
I can hardly believe that Thanksgiving is around the corner! Thanksgiving is truly one of my favorite holidays, especially because we get to host the dinner! For some, the idea of hosting a Thanksgiving dinner seems very overwhelming. All the food!! But, I think it is actually an easier holiday meal to prepare because the menu never really changes! Mashed potatoes-check! Turkey-check! Stuffing and pies-check and check! My secret for what makes this meal a little easier? Everyone in the family brings a few side dishes too! The best family meals are ones that everyone helps to make (in my opinion at least!).
Since, Thanksgiving is the one holiday that we host every year. So , because the menu doesn’t take “too” much time to put together, I can spend a little more time on preparing the Thanksgiving table decorations. I like to make the holiday special and I enjoy adding in little details to the food and decor. At the same time, our family is very laid back so I don’t want to make things too fussy or fancy. The point is for everyone to have fun and enjoy the time with each other.
Today, I’m sharing this year’s very simple and rustic Thanksgiving table!
Thanksgiving Table Setting for a Big Crowd
We have a crowd of seventeen this year, which I think is our biggest turn out yet. Our main dining table can seat 12 but then we take away one chair at the end of the table and add a folding table to it to add more seating. Usually two our kids share a piano bench at the end of the table to squeeze everyone in. It’s very cozy which is how we like it.
We always use our wedding China. It is one of the few times during the year that we use it. This year I was excited to use my new buffalo check napkins. I absolutely love them and they were a great deal. You’ll probably see them again at Christmas. In my opinion, buffalo check is a style you can use all year long.
Thanksgiving Kids Table Idea
Last year I picked up two of these tablecloths to use at the “kids” end of the table (although adults sit down that way too). I saved one for this year. It is always good to stock up when you see these things at Target because they run out by the next time you go there!
Thanksgiving Place Card Setting
Most years I have the kids make place cards for everyone. This year I decided to do something different and just write a Thanksgiving word or phrase on a card. This way everyone can sit where they want and we don’t have to worry about moving people around. Just trying something different to keep it easy!
Cut up small pieces of boxwood greenery to make mini wreathes. You can find boxwood garland HERE.Also, last year, I got a roll of faux boxwood greenery like THIS . I cut the garland in small pieces and twisted them into little wreathes. Perfect for adding a little touch of green to the table.
Inexpensive Thanksgiving Table Decor Ideas
You do not need to spend a lot of money to add decor to your Thanksgiving table! Honestly, if you can add one things, I suggest a lot of lighting! Candles (real or fake) add so much ambiance to a tablescape! Add a mix of real candles and battery operated lights for a nice mix of lighting. I just ordered these new ones that I’ll put in all the clear candle holders.
PRO TIP: Keep I intentionally kept all the Thanksgiving centerpiece decor low on the table! Otherwise, it makes it hard for guests to talk to each other across the table!!
Some years I have taller items and we have to move things off the table when we eat.
What I am I most excited about at the table?? The disposable silverware I bought this year. Ha ha! We do not have enough utensils for 17 plus when you add in the need for another set of forks for dessert we’d really run short! Some years we are washing utensils in between courses. One little thing that will make clean just a little easier:)
