Mother Daughter Shopping Trip Wrap Up
Monday we meet again! It was a fun filled weekend going on a mother daughter shopping trip! I am so sad it’s over already!
Every year my mom and I go on a mother daughter shopping trip just the two of us. We take our shopping trip very seriously and quite literally shop until we DROP! So, I am writing this late on Sunday with my feet up on the couch and snuggled under a blanket!
We always go out of town for our trip so that we can have uninterrupted time together and so we can venture to different stores than at home. We start on Friday evening and go until we are shopped out on Sunday. As I mentioned in my Friday Favorites post, we look forward to this event all year long and plan for it accordingly. Therefore, we end up with a big haul on clothes and home goods for ourselves but also we get a big start on Christmas gifts for the family.
This year, we started our adventure after my husband finished up work on Friday. Our drive is about two hours and it’s a perfect time to come up with a game plan for the stores we want to hit and for the items on our wish list. We hit the ground running when we got into town and started with several home stores including Homegoods, Kirklands and Pier One. Shopping was our priority and we didn’t even stop for dinner until almost 9. I tell you, my mom has more energy than I do!
My absolute FAVORITE find of the trip were these buffalo check ottomans from Kirklands. I have a thing for buffalo check and have been on the hunt for a bench or stool with this pattern. These are perfect! They are actually storage ottomans so I can’t wait to decide what to keep inside of them. For now they are in our dining room, but I am sure I will move them around a lot throughout the seasons. They are a great size and seem very sturdy.
As if the ottomans weren’t enough buffalo check, I also found this adorable Christmas pillow also from Kirkland’s! #givemeallthebuffalocheck
If you are crazy for buffalo check like me, here are a few more fun ways to get your buffalo fix! I have pajama pants similar to the ones found below–so festive!
The next day, Saturday, we started bright and early at 9:30 by going to the only store open! Yes, we went to a different HomeGoods!! It’s always a treasure hunt going to this store!
Coffee in hand, my mom and I are ready to take on the day!
After we finished up at the discount stores, we went to the big outdoor mall in the area. This is where we spent the bulk of the day and where we got to over 16K steps rather quickly. Maybe this is why I can barely move my legs!
We HAD to make a trip into American Girl for my daughter to check off some of her wish list items. Since she is ten years old, I know my days of seeing her play with American Girls are numbered. It makes me sad to think that she is moments away from ‘outgrowing’ most of her toys. But I’ll revel in the fun for now since she is still requesting these things for Christmas.
We really lucked out this weekend as there were a TON of Columbus Day sales. We didn’t even realize this when we planned the date for our trip. We’ve now decided that our future trips should continue to be on this weekend. Most of the sales continue through Monday, so if you are reading this on Columbus Day check them out. Our favorite deals were at Loft, Gap, Banana Republic, Pottery Barn…just to name a few!
Another one of my finds included this Halloween pillow cover from Pottery Barn that was under $20.
We finished up at the mall around 6 o’clock on Saturday and somehow still found energy to head to another area of town for Nordstrom Rack and a few other stores. It wasn’t until after 8 that we decided it was time to have dinner! We were too tired to even eat out at a restaurant, so we grabbed soup and salad and headed back to the hotel to eat.
I posted this over on my Instastories. We were so TIRED!
By Sunday our shopping lists had pretty much been finished so our motivation to shop was (finally) starting to wane. Our last stop before leaving town was the brand new Ikea that recently opened. Amazingly, we did not find anything to purchase except for their cinnamon rolls. Who knew Ikea had cinnamon rolls?! I thought it’d be a nice “souvenir” to bring home to the kids. Not the healthiest thing in the world –ahh well!
**************************************************************
The best part of the whole trip is spending one-on-one time with my mom! It is so rare to have this kind of time with our schedules. It really is so important to make time for your family. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the day-to-day and not make the time. But, whether it’s an hour for a cup of coffee or a long weekend away, any amount of time together can be special!
As a mom, I really hope my daughter is up for these kind of bonding experiences when she gets older. I cherish the time so much and I am always sad at how quickly how trip goes by.
We came home with a FULL car, empty wallets and sweet memories.
**Special shout out to my husband for holding down the fort! Between all of the kids activities it is a lot to juggle. He is more than capable of managing the kids but, from my own experiences when he is out of town, I know how tiring and challenging it can be! Don’t worry, he has his own vacation coming up soon!
Hope you all have a great start to your week!

This sounds like such a good time. I’ll definitely have to do something like this when my daughter is older. Impressed with the 16,000 steps. Holy moly that’s a lot of steps.
