Happy Friday Friends! How is your week going? My husband took off work today and we plan to get some yard work done. Although it is supposed to be very hot, so we will see how that goes! I am sharing some Favorites in the way of home, family and style.
One // Dollar Store Snack Baskets
As usual, Dollar Store comes through for me this week. Earlier this week, I had over a few girlfriends for a socially distanced patio visit. I wanted to offer snacks but keep things safer, so I made up some individual snack bins.
Everything was from the Dollar Store including the mini white handled bins which came in a set of $3. I went back the next day to scoop up some more of the bins because there are so many uses for them. This weekend, I am going to surprise the kids with individual S’mores baskets using these containers!
My daughter also suggested bringing these bins on a road trip. So many possibilities!
Two // Current Summer Reads
I’ll admit that my summer reading has slowed down the last few weeks. I’ve got three books on my nightstand right now and I am reading two of them at the same time. Does anyone else do that?
The Vanishing Half is a really good book. It was a little slow to start for me but now I am almost finished. I would definitely recommend adding to your summer reading list.
If I’m honest, Big Friendship is not a favorite of mine. It tells the story of a best friendship between two women but also throws in some science and psychology regarding friendships. It is a little all over the place for me. But I am committing to finish the book. There are definitely some good parts of the book!
The last book on my nightstand is one I am looking forward to reading. Evicted tells the true stories of families that are living in the poorest parts of Milwaukee.
I am hoping to finish the first two books this weekend and then get to Evicted. What are you reading right now?
Three // Back to School Organization Ideas
The hot button topic for parents right now is back to school plans. As many schools are starting with some at home learning as part of the plan, it is good to think now about how to stay organized.
Most of us were winging it this spring. But now, I want to get our work spaces a little more organized. Our dining room table became school central and I’d like to be able to keep things tidier this fall.
Homegoods has a lot of home organization supplies right now and it is good to get ahead of the game. I plan to head back to Homegoods this weekend to grab one of these rolling cart organizers.
My favorite is the grey ombre cart!
Four // Easy Smoothie Bowl Recipe
My daughter and I have smoothies most day of the week. But, we have wanted to try Smoothie Bowls for a while, so we tried out a few recipes.
One thing we realized is that you need a lot of frozen fruits and just a little bit of liquid. You need a very good blender to get the consistency to a soft serve yogurt type consistency. It is a lot thicker than a regular smoothie.
Pineapple + Mango Bowl
Mixed Berry Bowl
Easy smoothie bowl recipe:
- Fill your blender with one cup of your favorite frozen fruit and 2-4 Tablespoons of your favorite milk or coconut water. (You could also add protein powder and greens!)
- Blend together until you get a soft serve/sorbet consistency *you need a powerful Blender for this because you are not using a lot of liquid.
- Layer your bowl with a scoop of granola, then the smoothie, then add some toppings!
Good toppings include: granola, nuts, seeds, coconut flakes, fruit, chocolate chips, honey or peanut butter! These smoothie bowls are a great way to get in fruits and veggies and are so refreshing for summer!
Anyway, that wraps up another Friday Favorites! We are hoping to finish up my husband’s home office makeover this weekend. So, it is time to get started on that.
I am linking up with Erika, Narci and Andrea for this Friday Favorites post, so be sure to head over to their blogs as well! Hope you have a great weekend!

What cute lil snack bins. And YUM, those fruit bowls look delicious! Happy Weekend! xo
Those smoothie bowls look so delish! YUM!!
I love those bins- you are right- so many ways to use them- I think I have to snag some to! Thanks for sharing Jaclyn 🙂
I have the rainbow cart, did not purchase at Home Goods but it looks identical..ended up throwing it out, once you put things in the containers, they are so hard to pull out and in..they come off track so easily ? not trying to be a debbie downer, just thought I’d save some frustration. Maybe I got a dud though?
Oh that is so good to know! Maybe it’s better for art supplies than papers.
Simon has the rainbow cart in his room. I’m not sure it kept him organized though. We have our back to school supply lists and I’m very much resisting shopping for them if we’re going to be working online! Smoothie bowls sound amazing! And I have The Vanishing Half and everyone says it’s so good, which makes me scared since I don’t like the same things as everyone else. Slow to start is hard for me too!
I cannot read more than one book at a time! It totally throws me off. I also finish books 99.99% of the time even if I have to power through. Maybe it’s some weird type A/OCD in me? Ha!
Well aren’t you just the cutest hostess. Those little ind baskets are too cute. I love smoothie bowls. I make mine in my food processor??and add yogurt instead of liquid. So yummy!!! XOXO
