Friday Favorites: Next Right Thing, Summer Traditions and Book Suggestions
Hi Friends! What a few weeks (and months) it has been in our country. While I always try to keep it light on here, I am struggling with staying super upbeat this week with everything going on in our world around us. Everyone is sad, upset, worried and an array of every other emotion. As usual, I wanted to continue with my weekly tradition of Friday Favorites in home, style and family. I’ll keep it short and sweet for you this week.
Having Hope
While the world seems heavy right now, it is important to cling on to hope. I saw this quote on Instagram and it hit home for me. Lately, I’ve been saying that we need a re-do to 2020. But, I am realizing perhaps that this is the exact year we are supposed to be having right now.
Certainly, I know that good comes out of bad and there will be so many lessons that we learn this year. 2020 will be a year that is a part of the history books! If you are struggling on what you “should” be doing, just keep in mind that doing the “next right thing” is good enough right now!
YA Books on Diversity
Earlier this week, I shared some of our favorite Young Adult Books on Diversity for Tweens and Teens. Have you joined our Summer Reading Bingo Challenge yet? You can even have your teen join the challenge!
This weekend, the kids and I get to pick up their Summer Reading Program packets at the library (drive through since our Library is not officially open). One of our favorite traditions is going to the library the first week of summer break. The kids sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge and we come home with stacks of books. I am glad our library is still doing the program even if it is virtual.
Since the library has not been open, I have been ordering more books from Amazon for the kids. My 11 year old just read through this entire series in a matter of weeks.
We owned a few books in the series but I ended up ordering several of the books. My son typically reads graphic novels, so it was nice to see him grasp on to an entirely different genre.
Summer Traditions
Speaking of summer traditions, on Wednesday, the kids and I kicked off a new weekly tradition. Last summer, we started a weekly ice cream date and we went to a different spot each week. This year, we decided to incorporate a little bit of exercise with our ice cream. So now, Wednesdays are ice cream and a hike day!
We came home with a few new outdoor friends, specifically a bunch of very tiny tidpoles! Eeeks. This is definitely out of my comfort zone:)
Honestly, I am very excited for this laid back summer. We will still be able to do our usual Summer Family Traditions. Plus, we will have a lot of time to just do nothing! I think this article How to Give Our Kids an 80’s Summer is spot on.
Trendsend Order
Lastly, this week, I shared my latest Trendsend box. It was packed with summer clothing options. Now, more than ever, I love receiving clothing subscription boxes. Since we do not have the luxury of casually mall shopping, it is a treat to shop from the comfort of home.
That wraps up this week’s Friday Favorites. Sending you peace and love. Hope you have a great weekend with your family!
I am linking up with Erika, Narci and Andrea for this Friday Favorites post, so be sure to head over to their blogs as well!

Oh I love that Michael J Fox quote. I keep saying that I am trying to understand, to learn and to teach. And when all else fails, pray and vote.

It hasn’t been an easy year–and some have definitely had it harder than others. But I am trying to find the light.
I need to look into those trendsend boxes!
I love Trendsend…definitely my favorite clothing service.
Love the idea of combining treats and hikes. Love the quote about doing the next right thing as well.
It’s all about balance right? We eat too much ice cream all summer to not try to work it off a little!
Going to check out that book series!

We don’t typically plan it that way but our hikes often end with ice cream or some other treat!
