Friday Favorites: Family Cupcake Challenge, House Plant and Valentine’s Day Gifts
Happy Friday! We made it:) It has been a short week with the MLK holiday and then another day off of school due to the snow day. There is more cold and snow expected this weekend, so we may be in for more hibernation this weekend as well. I am not complaining! Anyway, as usual I am back to link up with Erika, Narci and Andrea for Friday Favorites! I’ll recap our week, share a few new fun finds and favorites!
Inexpensive House Plant
Last weekend, I added some new life to our home with this new house plant I found on sale at Aldi. I did some asking over on Instagram and I found out it was a Dracaena. I am hoping it is fool proof because we don’t exactly have a green thumb when it comes to our indoor plants!
These type of house plants are all not all that expensive but of course Aldi had a GREAT deal on them at $12.99. House plants are not just pretty to look at but also good for you. They help to eliminate harmful toxins in the air. This article sums it up for you on why you should consider a house plant or two! I am hooked!
Family Cupcake Challenge
We found ourselves with a bit of time this past weekend due to the snow. All of the kids’ activities were cancelled on Saturday, so my daughter suggested a cupcake bakeoff. We have been watching a lot of the new Kids Baking Championship! We decided to make it a little friendly competition with a boys versus girls challenge.
The boys opted for a vanilla cupcake with cream cheese frosting and Snickers inside and on the cupcake.
The girls made a chocolate cupcake with the most amazing peanut butter frosting and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups on top.
We all judged the cupcakes on a few categories including taste, originality and texture.
The girls won the family cupcake challenge but it was a VERY close competition. They were both so yummy!
Winter Wonderland Kids Night In
We had a lot of time on our hands this past week! On our snow day off from school, we did our latest Kids Night in Box. The theme was Winter Wonderland and it couldn’t have been more well timed.
The kids enjoyed the snow cones and also making each of the crafts.
These boxes are PERFECT for the winter months when we are stuck indoors.
Stitch Fix Versus Trendsend
Speaking of subscription boxes, this week I shared my clothing from my recent Stitch Fix and Trendsend boxes. I shared what I kept and returned plus also what I like (and don’t like) about each subscription box.
This black jumpsuit was a definite FAVORITE from my Trendsend box!

Latest Marshalls Finds
It has been a while since I have popped into the discount stores, but I made a quick visit to Marshalls this week. But, I managed to leave the store without anything! Although I do have a few regrets. This gray and white planter is such a good deal! If I decide to get another plant, I want to go back and get this planter (hopefully it would still be there).
Actually, Marshalls had a ton of pretty planters!
Also, if the idea of keeping a real houseplant alive seems intimidating, Marshalls has a ton of faux plants! I have several of these around the house. It’s good to have a mix of real and faux!
How adorable is this light up chick? I might have to go back for this cute guy too!
Marshalls and Homegoods always have cute party supplies. These cupcake liners are adorable for a Valentine’s celebration!
Valentine’s Day Celebrations
We are almost done with the first month of 2019. Yikes—time flies! Valentine’s Day will be here soon, which for me means getting all the kids organized with their school Valentine’s cards. We also like to do a little Valentine’s Day celebration with the family. Last year we had a Valentine’s Day breakfast and this year I am not sure what we will do. The cupcake challenge would have been a perfect Valentine’s Day activity:)
Anyway, I also like to get the kids a Valentine’s Day treat or two. Yesterday, I rounded up a few fun ideas that are all under $20. Just some cute little treats that your kids might appreciate!

So much to love pretty lady! You know I adore you in that jumpsuit and I wish I could’ve come over and been a judge for the cupcake competition…yum and they look soooo good! Marshall’s is getting all the cute Spring stuff, making me so happy! I hope you have a super sweet weekend!
I need to check out that plant at Aldi. Yes, I love to get fake plants at TJ Maxx and Home Goods. Ikea has good ones too. Hope you have a fabulous weekend.
I am not good at keeping plants alive. I have two fake plants in my house but right now I also have a succulent and a pansy that Simon brought home. I hope they won’t die! The cupcake bake off is so cute! Have a great weekend!
I love all the spring decorations that are popping into stores. That chick light is adorable. What a fun time with the cupcakes. We have done something similar and the kids loved it!
OMG that cupcake challenge looks like so much fun AND so much deliciousness- what a great idea! Have an awesome weekend Jaclyn 🙂
I was just at Marshalls today and picked up the cute yellow chick. and the valentine cupcake pack. You and I have similar taste my niece…
That is too funny!! LOVE IT!
I am loving that plant holder from Marshalls and I would never think to look at Aldi for a house plant, way less pressure to keep alive when it’s only $12.99 😉
