If I am being honest, one of my least favorite chores is to clean the bathrooms. I might say that about most household chores. But, I really do not like to clean bathrooms. There are so many little details to take care of when it comes to really getting the bathroom clean. One of the thorns in my side with the bathroom is getting our glass shower doors sparkling clean.

Fortunately, we only have one bathroom with glass doors. Recently, I decided to really get our glass shower doors clean and sparkly. It was actually easier to clean the bathroom shower doors than I thought. I just used two simple household cleaners that I already had on hand. I prefer to use more natural products and I do not like to have to buy a cleaner that is just for one specific job.

What is the best way to clean glass shower doors?

If you have glass shower doors you know how soap scum can really build up. I wipe down our glass shower doors several times a week but my usual glass cleaner does not cut into the soap scum.

So last week, I tried a new way to clean the shower doors and the method was like magic! The soap scum came right off of the shower doors. I wish I would not have waited so long to try a new cleaning method.

You just need to household cleaning solutions, liquid dish soap and vinegar, to clean your shower doors.

So, how do you use this cleaning method to clean your glass shower doors?

First, squeeze liquid dish soap onto a sponge and wipe onto glass.

Start with a small amount of dish soap (about the size of a dime) and put it on a sponge. Then, wipe the soap all over the shower glass doors. Be sure to get plenty of soap on the areas with a lot of soap scum and dirt.

Any dish soap will work! I used Seventh Generation dish soap and it worked really well.

Spray Vinegar and Water Solution on Doors

Next, spray a vinegar and water mixture all over the glass doors. For the vinegar and water solution, I use equal parts water and vinegar for the spray. This is the vinegar solution I use to clean all of our mirrors and glass.

Important note: Do not spray vinegar on marble or stone as it can damage it. So be mindful when you are spraying the vinegar near marble and try to avoid getting any on the stone.

Let the solution sit for 15-20 minute

Depending on how dirty you glass is, let the mixture sit for 15-20 minutes. You can test a small area after fifteen minutes to see if the soap scum comes off easily.

Wipe the glass clean with a cloth

After 15-20 minutes, take a clean cloth and wipe the cleaner off of the doors. You might need to spray more of the vinegar and water solution onto the glass doors. Also, you might need to scrub some areas a little hard to get the grime off of the doors. However, it should be pretty easy for the grime to come right off of the glass doors.

It’s interesting to know that glass could easily withstand the acidity of vinegar. I’ll keep that in mind after hiring a glass door company to install a new shower door for my bathroom. I’m sure that cleaning my bathroom would be a little bit more different after getting that door installed.

How much dish soap? A dimes worth won’t do 3 glass doors

You can keep the same promotions and double or triple the recipe for a big space. If you use too much soap though you end up with streaky doors.
