Happy Wednesday! I hope you are having a great week! The kids had an unexpected day off from school yesterday due to the wind chill! All told, they had a total of five days off from school because they also didn’t have school Friday and Monday. We did a little bit of everything during their time off–play in the snow, watch movies, meet up with friends, bake, you name it! By yesterday, we were running low on fun activities. I am so glad I had saved our Kids Night In Box because it ended up being a perfect activity for a winter day at home!! The theme of this month was all about SNOWFLAKES! I’ll share all the details of the fun we had with this Kids Night In Box! It is a perfect subscription during the winter months when we are looking for kids activities to do indoors!

Kids Night In Box Winter Details

As the kids have gotten older, it is harder and harder to carve out intentional family time! The Kids Night In Box gives us a chance to slow down and  spend a few hours with each other. The kids love having different roles with the box and we draw on everyone strengths and interests to complete all of the activities.

This month’s box included:

Supplies for three crafts (perfect for my 3 kids!)

Two Recipe Suggestions (Included ingredients for one of the recipes!)

A Book–Snowflake Bentley

I always make sure to read the instructions before we get started. The kids like to work on everything so quickly that I need to be sure I understand all the directions.

Kids Night in Box Activities

We started with the french toast recipe. I have to admit that my mom makes the best french toast and the kids always nicely point out that when I make it, the toast is not quite the same. BUT, this recipe was really good. I think because the recipe called for half and half instead of regular milk.

After breakfast, we read Snowflake Bentley. This book really set the tone for the box and helped to illustrate what we would be working on.The story gave us an appreciation for how special and unique snowflakes really are!!  It sure helped that we have a TON of snow outside. It was such a timely theme!

The kids couldn’t wait for the dessert--Snow Cones! So we made the snow cones and ate them while we worked on the next activity!

This family subscription box is so fun for a family night in Kids Night In Box Winter Review #affliliate #kidsactivities #subscriptionboxOur snow cones didn’t turn out quite as “pretty” as the example but the kids did not mind one bit!  Two thumbs up from everyone!

Then we listened to a Winter Wonderland song by Claude Debussy. We talked about the song in depth including what instruments were used and what words we would use to describe the song. Then, we were instructed to close our eyes and imagine snow falling. The kids and I talked about how we pictured the snow falling–fast, slow, twirling, flying, etc. This was a nice, calming activity!!

Next, we worked on all of the crafts! It was nice that each of the kids wanted to work on a different craft. My daughter worked on the Glittering Snowflake by using the included pipe cleaners and rainbow beads. So pretty!!

My nine year old worked on probably the most complex craft. This Snowflake art project was a multi step craft. First, he had to go online to the Kids Night In Box website and follow the instructions to draw a snowflake.

Then he placed tissue paper on top of the drawing and used a paint brush to dampen all of the paper.

Next, he used a hair dryer to remove all of the tissue paper.

Lastly, he added glitter to the snowflake. He did a great job of following all of the instructions and working on this project by himself! I love how this art turned out!!

Our littlest guy worked on a snowflake hand project! He had a little assistance getting his hand traced. Then he cut out his hand from the paper.

We found a school picture to put in the frame and he attached the snowflakes. So precious!

I love this. I am totally going to check it out! We just got a Kiwico subscription box for my daughters birthday and she absolutely loves it but this might be a fun switch, especially now that it’s winter. The kids art projects are beautiful and I love that they all choose different ones.

This was such a cute one- my favorite would be the sparkly snowflake project (even though I can imagine the glitter everywhere!) 🙂
