Fireplace Mantle Decor Updates
Recently, I have been looking to change up our dining room fireplace mantle. Over three years ago, we completed a major home renovation which included a new kitchen and family room. One room that remained unchanged was our dining room, which actually used to be our family room. We talked about updating this fireplace with new stone and a new mantle but it wasn’t in the budget. It is nice to have this original detail in our house, however, this fireplace area was lacking something.
New Framed Artwork
I decided it was time to swap out the current decor with something a little more modern and updated. The first change was a new piece of art. I searched a lot of places online and in store, but I really wanted something pretty original. To my surprise, I landed on an Etsy store with original arts prints. I can not believe the amount of art available on Etsy! There is something for every price range. I went with a SUPER affordable option. Many shops on Etsy have the option to purchase a digital copy of an art print which you can then print on your own. This is a huge cost savings! You can check out the shop I purchased from HERE! The artist has some really fun modern and abstract prints!
We wanted a specific size (30 X 30). I was able to communicate directly with the artist who resized the digital print. Once you purchase the print, you can have it printed out anywhere you want! The artist suggested Fed Ex and Costco as reasonable priced, quality options.
Frame it Easy
The next decision was selecting a frame for the artwork. Again, it was a little tricky to find a frame, because I selected a unusual frame size. While it all worked out, as I choose a company that has frames in any size, next time, I would start with a more traditional print size. Just a little tip if are working on a similar project!
Frame It Easy was a perfect solution to my framing needs! I was able to select from a ton of various frame options (materials, colors, etc). Then, I uploaded my print directly to the website. I was able to see how the artwork would look in the frame before adding it to my cart.
You can opt to just buy the frame or upload your photo and have them frame it for you! I highly recommend the second option unless you already have the printed artwork.
I selected this beautiful gray wood frame. It was exactly what I wanted and ties in perfectly with the artwork.
Also, there are two different cover options–acrylic or non glare. I choose a non glare because we have a lot of canned lights in the room that reflect onto the picture.
The frame really is beautiful and looks so perfect with the print!

Once the artwork for the mantle was finalized, it was time to work on the other decor details. I wanted to keep the project cost to a minimum, so I worked with decor accents we already owned. Shop your home first! All I did was swap out the decor from our family room fireplace mantle with this mantle! The “new” decor gave the space a more formal, modern look!
I am loving the less cluttered, minimal look of the mantle!
You might notice, we did make one other big change to the space! We added a pair of accent sconces to the wall! Despite how it might seem, installing these lights was a pretty easy project!
To save money and time, we did not hard wire these lights into the wall. Instead, we (my husband) drilled them into the wall and then we used my favorite battery operated puck lights! We had to use 3M command strips to adhere the lights to the inside of the sconces. They add such a nice glow to the space at night! These lights were really the final touch to pull the space together!
There you have it, a small weekend project that makes a big impact in the home! I am seriously happy when I walk by this new and improved space. It feels so much more sophisticated than how it looked originally.
Our mantle project is done for now. However, we are talking about painting the brick either pure white or some type of whitewash. I need to do a little more research before I start painting brick. If you have any tips or suggestions, send them my way!
