Happy Friday! I hope you had a wonderful week! This week’s Friday Favorites is a little different as I am participating in a front porch decor blog hop with a few other fun blogger friends! Spring weather is starting here and I can’t wait to spend our days outdoors. It was nice to get our front porch ready for the season, so we can take advantage of the space all spring and summer. Our front entryway is very small and it can be a challenge to style, but with a few little updates, we were able to create a space we love. After you read through my small front porch decor ideas, be sure to check out the other blogger’s porches as well!
Small Front Porch Chairs
Even on a small front porch, you can add a mini conversation area. It might only be one small chair or stool but it make the spot very cozy!
This year, we found a small front porch chair. Last year, we were able to fit a rocking chair. You can see our porch from last summer HERE. While I absolutely LOVED having the rocking chair on the front porch, it was a little big for the small space. It was a very functional decor piece but it just didn’t look quite right there. We really used the chair all the time, most often me, but I did catch the kids sometimes sitting out there reading a book.
Actually, I was ready to put the rocking chair back on the porch but I when I realized it was need to be repainted, I started to reconsider. Then, my six-year-old and I were at Target in the outdoor patio section and we found so many fun outdoor chair options! I brought this small front porch chair home and then asked the kids what they liked better. Does anyone else ask their family to take a vote on decor decisions? We all opted for the smaller chair because it made the porch feel bigger and more open.

The fabric on the chair is really cool! It can get wet and dries up really nice. It is actually a really comfy chair–especially with a pillow!
Shop Discount Stores for Inexpensive Options
When you are working with small decorating budget, you want to be sure to look everywhere for home decor–including places you would never think. That rocking chair that I mentioned was actually a garage sale find! I have been known to grab small furniture pieces from the side of the road. (Not ashamed to admit it!)
This year I scored a fabulous spring porch item at a very unexpected place. You won’t believe where I got the white side table!
FIVE BELOW of all places! I was at Five Below with the kids the other day and there is a lot of cute home and garden accessories! No reason to spend more money on something that may or may not last more than a year anyway! I find that outdoor furniture, no matter how much you spend on it, does not hold up as long as you would like!
I found a similar table that has a removable tray. This is a great inexpensive table option.

Use Pillows and Blankets for Coziness
I love adding a pillow and blanket to our porch chair. However, a pillow or blanket might not work out if you have an uncovered space. Even though our space is covered, the pillow still gets hit from the elements, so I am sure to choose an outdoor pillow. If the weather is really bad, I try to remember to bring in the pillow and blanket.
This might not be a practical option for you, so it is something to consider!

Add Texture with Layered Doormats
The layered doormat look is still a big trend. You can add a bit of style and your own personality with a fun doormat. For an even richer look, add a layered doormat look. Find a patterned larger rug for the base layer and then add a cute and fun smaller doormat for the top layer.
We have had this black and white rug for a few years and I still LOVE it. This is a similar black and white rug option. The rug has held up so well and even after a few years does not need to be replaced. However, doormats don’t hold up as well and usually need replacing every year–especially after a long winter!
Lemon Doormat (Another Option HERE and HERE) //Black and White Rug
I was so excited to put out my new lemon doormat that I have been talking about since I purchased it a few months ago! The doormat was the inspiration for the rest of the porch as I added little pops of yellow! Once I get the rest of our summer flowers, I will be sure to incorporate more yellow.

The bigger rug underneath the doormat really ties a front entryway together.

Consider the Right Lighting
If you have it in your budget, consider a new light fixture. A nice light can really give your small front porch a “polished look”. You do not have to spend a TON of money on a porch light. There are many options at Home Depot and Lowes.

Make Your Front Door Pop with a Wreath
Whether you have a newer front door or a older door that has seen better days, a new wreath can really give it a fresh look! Stick to a neutral wreath with a lot of greenery if you plan to use the wreath through all seasons. If you pick one with a lot of flowers, you may find you need to swap it out more often to fit with the season.
Decorate with Inexpensive Plants and Flowers
If you are on a tight budget for your porch decor, one of the cheapest decor tricks is to use flowers and plants to fill the spot. Save the most money by buying flowers in flats (not already potted) and then plant the flowers into inexpensive pots.
Plants and flowers also add color and cheer to a front porch. You can even pick flowers that match any color themes you have with your small front porch. In my case, I tied in the yellow and whites with my flowers.
Small Front Porch Budget Decor Ideas
Decide what you want out of the space and focus on your priorities. Do you want seating? Would you rather a lot of plants and flowers? Do you need a new wreath or doormat?
In my case, our porch was complete after a few additional decor pieces. The blanket and pillow were things I already had. I purchased the yellow planter from Kirklands. Then, I added another plant, which was a $10 bargain from Whole Foods! (You never know where you will find home decor!). Also, the wreath was on sale at Home Depot! (similar HERE).
You don’t need to do a complete overhaul of your entryway every season. Take a look at what you already have to work with and then mix in a few new pieces.
The key is to take your time filling a space. I’ve slowly been collecting a few things over the last few months and it all came together. Sometimes when you go out looking to decorate a space in a short amount of time, you end up buying things you don’t really like. Focus on one key decor element you love and then build the rest of the space around that piece!

Where is the porch light from??
It was there when we moved in but I would imagine Home Depot or Lowes–it isn’t too fancy.
Thanks for sharing these great tips, love them!
Even though they are sold out….where did the lemon door mat come from?
It is from Kirklands!
How did you hang your wreath on your door.
I used a 3M command removable hook. You can kind of see it if you look close but I love not having to use a nail!
Thank you so much for sharing these projects. I was shocked at what I was able to find at my local whole foods for my front porch. We recently had our cabinet doors replaced, and though we are happy with the service, it did eat up a lot of our home renovation/decor budget for the year. Your tips saved us big time as we tried to get the outside of our home updated.
I love all of your suggestions. Great ideas. Thanks for sharing!
