Stitch Fix May Review

Happy Memorial Day! I hope you have had a great holiday weekend! The unofficial kick off to summer is here! I can hardly believe it is time to wear shorts and summer dresses. Just a few weeks ago I was still wearing my winter coat.

Anyway, I was very excited to receive a  Stitch Fix box in the mail. It is always fun to receive a surprise box of clothing and accessories.

I have a lot to say about this Stitch Fix box. There was some good news and not great news. So, let’s get started so I can share all the details!

How Stitch Fix Works

First though, are you familiar with how Stitch Fix works?

Stitch Fix offers a clothing subscription service for women, men and children.

  • You decide how often you want to receive a new clothing box.
  • $20 styling fee. The fee is applied to your order if you keep any clothing.
  • Stitch Fix offers  women’s sizes 0-24W & XS-3X,.
  • They also offer subscriptions for children! My daughter has a subscription to Stitch Fix Kids!
  • The average price point is $55 per item but you can decide how much you are willing to pay for each category–pants, tops, accessories, etc.
  • The Stitch Fix women’s line works with over 250 established and up and coming brands. There is clothing for every style type–classic, preppy, edgy, etc! They even offer athleisure clothing and shoes!
  • 25% discount on entire order if you keep 4 or more items.

Stitch Fix started over 9 years ago and it was one of the first women’s clothing subscription boxes. I remember when Stitch Fix first started and all of my friends were giving the service a try. The company has evolved over the years to include men’s and children’s subscription offerings too.

My daughter has tried the kids’ clothing subscription and we were very happy with her boxes. Unfortunately, she has grown out of the childrens’ service now.

What I Got in My May Stitch Fix Box:

Now, let’s talk about this month’s Stitch Fix box!

Item #1: Daniel Rainn Kiara Detail Top // $64

Item number one was this white eyelet top by Daniel Rainn.

My first impression was that it was nice but not my style. However, when I tried on the eyelet top, I thought it was actually cute on especially with jeans.

This top is lightweight and you could wear all summer long. But, the top is very sheer and see through, which I do not love. Ultimately, the price is what turned me off. I am not interested in paying $60+ for a top like this.

Item #2: STS Blue Skinny High Rise Jeans // $59

The next item in my box was this pair of Skinny High Rise light washed jeans. If I am being honest, I did not want any jeans right now. I have a lot of jeans and I haven’t worn any in months!

But, I actually loved the fit and color of these jeans. I looked through my closet and I do have a light wash that even comes close to this color.

The problem with these jeans is they were a bit short on my 5 ‘9 frame. The jeans came just above my ankle. If they were a few inches longer I would have probably added this pair to my order.

The price was good for a nice pair of jeans.

Item #3: 41 Hawthorn Jersey Knit Purple Top // $44

So, item #3 had me scratching my head a little bit. This 3/4 length wine colored top did not seem like a fit for a Stitch Fix box that contained summer outfits. This top is something I would have expected in a fall order and maybe I would have considered it then.

But, this is not a top I would even consider wearing right now.

I am sure, Stitch Fix, like every other company these days is dealing with some inventory issues. So, maybe that is why I got a bit of a random piece. But, I was definitely disappointed to get an item that is not something I could wear this season.

Item #4: Mason & Belle Floral Lace Kimono //$42

I always save the best for last and this lace kimono was my favorite! This Floral Lace Kimono by Mason & Belle is very cute.

At first I wasn’t sure if I loved it because it was as long and flowing as I like kimonos.

But, I ended up loving that the kimono was a little more tailored and shorter. It is a great kimono to dress up or down.

I only have one other kimono and I have been on the hunt for another one. But it is hard to find a style and a pattern that I really like. So this kimono ended up being a winner. I thought it was a good price point too.

Item #5: Jill Michael Silver Hoops // $28

Well, the bad news about this box is that I did not receive the pair of earrings that was supposed to be included. I searched and searched the box, but these earrings from J + M were not included.

The GOOD NEWS is that Stitch Fix has awesome customer service! I immediately emailed Stitch Fix to let them know and they apologized and provided me with a $20 credit! That was above and beyond what I would have expected! I just didn’t want to have to pay for an item I did not receive.

While it would have been nice to receive the earrings to try on, I was happy with the resolution of this situation.

What I thought about my Stitch Fix May box

Recap of my Stitch Fix May Box

Overall, my box had some winners and losers.

Now, that I have ordered Stitch Fix boxes for over a year, I am always hopeful that my stylist would be able to pin point my style a little better. I am really excited for the floral kimono and I have already worn it several times. So, it was a successful Stitch Fix box based on that one item!

LOVE that kimono on you especially with the white jeans! So so pretty 🙂

Loving the kimono on you, Jaclyn! And the eyelet top was super cute too but I know what you mean about the high price tag. I just changed all my pricing in my profile to the cheapest setting because I’ve been struggling to keep pieces recently due to price. I’m interested to see what my next fix looks like.
