Are you interested in trying a clothing subscription box but not sure which one is right for you? Today, I am sharing my thoughts on Stitch Fix versus Trendsend subscription services.Â
Stitch Fix Versus Trendsend
Happy Tuesday! Yesterday, I shared my tips on decluttering your clothes and today I am going to talk about how I find clothing that I love. I have found that pairing down my closet allows me to focus on clothes that I really feel good about wearing. While I do love shopping, especially if I get to have time shopping with my mom, I actually do not buy new clothing all that often. It is rare that I can grab a few hours to myself and head to the mall.
Like many moms, I prefer online shopping. But my favorite way to get new clothes is from clothing subscription boxes. My favorite two subscriptions are Trendsend and Stitch Fix. I have been receiving Trendsend boxes for over two years and Stitch Fix boxes for the last few months. As luck would have it, I received my Trendsend and Stitch Fix boxes in the same week, so I thought I would share what I got in both of them with you. Plus, some thoughts on what I think of Stitch Fix versus Trendsend Subscription Boxes!
Trendsend Evereve Box January
Overall, I think I got a fun selection of clothing! In my profile, that I filled out before my box was styled, I indicated that I would like a date night outfit and I would be open to a dress or skirt. I said that I did not want any jeans. The stylist delivered on my requests!
I received six items and I kept three items. I’ll share at the end what I kept!
Outfit #1: Utility Jacket, Tunic Tee and Camo Leggings
The first outfit is perfect for day to day casual. I received plain black Spanx leggings in my September box and I love them. These camo ones are fun for a little change up. The olive green utility jacket is a great alternative to a cardigan or sweater. It would be great in the springtime as a transitional piece to wear as the weather is changing.
The gray tunic tee is a perfect length to wear with leggings and it is also so soft! The tee would be great to wear with the many cardigans that I own. I am always on the lookout for tees to wear under my favorite cardigans.
I also received this black plaid blanket scarf. It was a great deal at $15 (no longer available online).
Verdict: Kept the gray tunic tee. I love adding staples to my closet and this gray tee is a piece I will wear over and over again. I liked the camo leggings but my black spanx are all I need. One way to minimize is to not buy the same piece in different colors just because you like it. Stick to the one piece you own and mix up how you wear it. Also, I said no to the coat and scarf. I have a similar utility jacket. The scarf was a little too bulky for me!
Outfit #2: Black Off the Shoulder Jumpsuit
When I took this out of the box, I had no idea if this would work for me. I love how cute jumpsuits look on everyone else, but I have yet to find one that works for me. But when I put on this black, lightweight jumpsuit, I was so excited with the fit and feel of it! It is a soft jersey material and has 3/4 length sleeves. It is so comfy and cozy.
Did I mention it has pockets? LOVE this feature!
This jumpsuit could be dressed up with heels or dressed down with sandals when the weather warms up.
Verdict:Â KEPT. This is such a versatile piece for my closet. It can be worn almost in any season. This jumpsuit would pack up so well for a trip!
Outfit #3: Green Longsleeve Dress
The last outfit I received was this Michael Stars green dress. Another item that I wasn’t sure I liked when I took it out of the box. It is definitely a little more edgy and flirty than what I normally buy. But this dress would have be fun for the holiday season!
I love that Trendsend throws in on sale items in the box. This dress is now under $50 (normally $138!). It is hard to pass up a good deal!
Verdict: Kept! I went a little outside of my comfort zone in keeping this dress. But I think it will be fun for a date night!

Stitch Fix January Box
As I mentioned in my first Stitch Fix review, I have loved my Trendsend subscription but I wanted to branch out and try Stitch Fix. Trendsend can be expensive…especially because, up until now, they did not provide a discount for keeping multiple items.
Just like with my Trendsend order, I indicated on my Stitch Fix request that I wanted outfits for date nights. I had hoped to get a dress or two but I ended up with five tops.
Top #1 Blush Textured Sweater
I love the color and feel of this sweater. It is SUPER soft. The stylist indicated that she picked this sweater because it was similar to a top on my Pinterest board.
Verdict: Returned. The fit was a little looser that I would prefer for this type of sweater. If it was a bit less expensive than the $68 price tag, I might have given it more consideration.
Top #2: Dark Green Knot Front Tee
I appreciate that this Stitch Fix box had more color variety than my last one. This green color is very pretty and it is not a color I have much of in my closet. I did not like the price tag of $48 for a pretty thin long sleeve top.
Verdict: Returned. This top was very thin and I didn’t trust that it would hold up well in the wash.
Top #3: Burgundy Hooded Pullover
Also love the color of this pullover but I do have a lot of things in this color. This type of top isn’t something I need and in the spirit of trying to keep my wardrobe to things I LOVE, this top would not make the cut.
Verdict: Returned
Top #4: Black Floral Tunic
I was surprised I received a floral tunic as, after my last box, I indicated I do not like floral tunics. This top is the one my stylist indicated would be good for a date night. I was pleasantly surprised that I did like it. But I didn’t love it enough to keep it.
Verdict: Returned
Top #5: Navy and White Striped Pullover
Well, I am a sucker for stripes especially navy and white ones! This medium weight sweater would be great for springtime when the weather starts to get warmer. I could see throwing this top on during summer nights when it’s a little cooler. I like the smaller striped detail on the cuff of the sleeves.
Verdict: Kept. I might not have kept anything in my box but with the $20 styling fee, there is a bit of an incentive to keep at least one item so you don’t lose the money.
Stitch Fix Details
First, in case you are not familiar with Stitch Fix, I’ll give you the scoop. It is a clothing subscription box that delivers you five pieces each month. The items can include tops, bottoms, accessories, shoes and coats! You have the option to decide what type of pieces you want and do not want. There are various price points and you can select how much you are willing to spend in each category.
There is a $20 styling fee that will be applied to your order if you decide to keep anything. Otherwise you do not get back the $20 fee. You fill out a very detailed style profile to help your stylist select things that are your style.
The nice thing about Stitch Fix is that if you keep all five items, you will receive a 25% discount off your order. Stitch Fix offers women’s sizes 0-24W & XS-3X,. They also offer subscriptions for me and children! My daughter just tried out a Stitch Fix Kids box!Â
The average price point is $55 per item but you can decide how much you are willing to pay for each category–pants, tops, accessories, etc. The Stitch Fix women’s line works with over 250 established and up and coming brands. There is clothing for every style type–classic, preppy, edgy, etc! They even offer athleisure clothing.
Have you ever tried Stitch Fix? If you would like to give it a try, you can head over and fill out your request! (my Stitch Fix influencer link)
Which Subscription Box is Better? Stitch Fix Versus Trendsend Subscription
So, I’ll be honest, I think Stitch Fix is still trying to figure out my style. It is great that Stitch Fix has style quizzes that you can take every time you log on to the Stitch Fix app. I have confidence that they will hone in on my preferences over time. I know that the stylists also take a look at Pinterest boards as I mentioned. So I think a lot goes into what they pick for you. I am going to continue to order Stitch Fix boxes every other month.
That being said, I have to say that I prefer my Trendsend subscription. Trendsend items can be a little pricey, but they do send me sale items. Sometimes the items in my Trendsend box are a little too edgy and not always practical for a stay at home mom of three! But the outfits can also push me out of my comfort zone and I find that I reach for my Trendsend clothes the most in my closet!

I look forward to the mail when I know these boxes are coming! These subscriptions are a great way to add quality, long lasting pieces to my closet. Have you tried either of these subscription boxes?
Way to go for getting out of your comfort zone with the green dress! I like the striped top you chose from stitch fix too.
Love how great you look in the black jumpsuit!
It definitely sounds like Trendsend has your style down more, and they listen to what you want/send appropriate items. That’s good you want to keep with Stitch Fix too though – you might find some good items!!! I think my favorites are what Trensend sent you though. 🙂

I loooove that jumpsuit on you! Unfortunately I don’t dress up or even leave the house enough (GOD, THAT’S SAD) to do a clothing subscription box, but I love other people’s unboxing posts.
I LOVE that black jumpsuit on your Jaclyn- beautiful!
Thanks for providing such a detailed review on both subscription boxes! I’ve been wanting to try this put, but wasn’t sure if it was worth it. I think I’ll give Trensend a try!
What a great finds and a great review. I have been hearing a lot about Stich fix, but never heard of Trendsend. So now I need to check them out.
Interesting take! I LOVE StitchFix and was a little put off by the prices of Trendsend when I looked at their site. You’ve inspired me to give them another look!
Didn’t know about Trendsend! Stitch Fix used to be so good for and then box after box was a dud. They sent me a make up box a few months ago which was also a dud and now they’re offering another one. I am going to take it but really need to think about what I want so I can be specific to my stylist.
What do you mean by a make up box?? That’s good they are trying to make things right. I like that Stitch Fix really tries to hone in on your style. But I do appreciate that Trendsend is styled by the regional store and I think that they take a lot of time to fulfill your order.
I have been disappointed more and more by my StitchFix box so I was excited to use your link & try out Trend Send. However, they require you to keep a credit card on file and do not accept debit cards which was a huge let down for me. I do not & will not use a credit card as I do not believe in them. Super disappointed!
Aww Bummer I am so sorry Cynthia! I wonder if you sent an e-mail to Trendsend they could help? They have been receptive when I have had questions or concerns.
super helpful read, thank you. I have been a Stitchfix member for a couple years now and am bored with every box. It is the same ol thing and it is time to cancel. I just signed up for Trendsend and am hopeful that I can return to getting excited for my surprise shipments.
Sometimes you have to try something different! I’d love to hear how you end up liking Trendsend! As with any subscription box, it takes a few orders for them to nail your style.
