Oreo Taste Test
Happy Monday everyone! I hope you had a great weekend. Today I have got a super FUN family activity to share with you! This rainy day (or sunny day) activity takes very little time to prepare and is very inexpensive! A few weeks back, I passed by a Oreo display at our local grocery store and on the spot, came up with the idea to do a cookie taste test activity! I love surprising the kids with fun activities and I knew this idea would be a hit! Here are all the details on our Snack Taste Testing.
First, I should mention that I made this activity a surprise! Sometimes the build up is even more exciting than the actual event. I told the kids early in the day that I had a FUN SURPRISE for them. All day long the kids kept trying to guess what I had planned. I did tell them that it was an activity at home and that it involved food. (I didn’t want them to have their sights set to HIGH).
This snack taste testing could be any type of food. I wanted to make this fun, so I picked a treat I knew they’d love. It is not often that we have FIVE boxes of Oreos in our house, so this was a rare treat!
I picked five different varieties of sandwich cookies (both Oreos and store brand). Then, I put a few samples of each on the plate. We tried one cookie at a time and the kids had to rate the cookie. I did not have them blindfolded but now having done the activity, I highly recommend having the kids close their eyes! We had my husband try out the cookies with his eyes closed and it made his descriptions way different than the kids with their eyes open!
The kids first had to write down the cookie and then make a guess on the flavor. Each cookie received a rating of 1-5. Then, after all of the cookies were tasted, each of the kids selected their favorite cookie.
It was fun to compare responses because everyone’s opinions were so DIFFERENT!
We each had our favorites and we each had ones we did not look. Who knew there was a bad Oreo flavor?!
I know this is an activity that the kids will be talking about for years to come and I am sure they will request that we do this again! They had so much fun that they have since had cookie taste tests with any friends that have come over!
Taste Test Supplies
- 5 varieties of a yummy snack food (The possibilities are endless–chips, cookies, donuts, ice cream, sodas, anything the family would like!)
- Taste Testing Ballot
- Beverage (Have fun pairing the perfect beverage with the snack!) Milk is great for cookies!!
Now that we have ballots, we can do this activity again with any treat. I will keep my eye out for a sale on fun treats at the store so I can stock up for our next snack taste test. Maybe one day I will be able to pull off a healthy treat like new vegetables….maybe:)

This cookie taste test is a VERY FUN activity that is sure to bring smiles to your kids faces! What kind of taste test party would your kids enjoy??
OMG. This is SO fun. My son is only two so I am sure he would have graded this in the highest regards. Can’t wait to try this when he’s a little older.
Ha ha! You could always mix up the idea with some of his favorite foods!
This looks like it would be so fun! My kids are only two and four and would probably just be more interested in tasting than rating but I’ll have to remember this for when they get older!
This is simply brilliant! My kids would jump right on board with this and have so much fun doing it. There are so many possibilities! Totally trying this. Thanks for sharing!
This is such a cute idea! My boys are going to love this!! Thanks!
What a fun idea for a science experiment! I am even thinking about doing it as a blind taste test, too.
What a fabulous idea for a science experiment! I could even see it as a blind taste test.
What a fun idea! I could see my nephew really loving this one. Maybe you could do fruits or something? Those tend to be liked a BIT more than veggies. LOL

This is such a cute and fun idea. I would love to do this when my daughter is a little older!
So fun Jaclyn! I think you should just move into our house each summer and lead ALL activities- your kids must’ve had a blast!
I pinned this. So what brand won? I am really curious! Great you have the printable.
Everyone picked something different. My youngest loved the store brand vanilla and my middle picked Oreo Birthday Cake and my oldest Oreo Firecrackers:) Now I am on a hunt to find unique Oreo/storebrand cookies!
The concept of this alone is brilliant and can be used in so many different ways—ice cream, juices, and so much more. Seriously I’m so excited to try this!
I’ll have to try this! My kids are going to thank you!
I absolutely love this idea!! My daughter watches taste test videos on YouTube all the time and would have so much fun with this!! Thank you so much for sharing the idea!! 🙂
This is such a fun idea!!
Thanks Dara!
My daughter is too young for this, but honestly I would love to do this myself with my husband! Oreos are a great idea too with all their new flavors they’re trying out!
That would be such a fun date night in idea–I never thought of that but I love it!!
This is a great idea! I’m going to link to it on my summer bucket list post on my blog!
I appreciate it! Please let me know when you do and I’ll be sure to share your post!
