Tweens have their own sense of style and opinions, so creating a bedroom they love can take some work! Today, I am sharing some tween girl bedroom decor ideas.
Tween Girl Bedroom Decor Ideas
Today, I am sharing my tween daughter’s bedroom updates! This Friday my oldest turns 12 and I can hardly believe it! So it seems fitting that today, we are talking about updates we made to her bedroom. I’ll be honest, her bedroom has been in a work in progress for almost two years. We have been trying to figure out a style that will grow with her until she leaves the house in six and a half short years!
My daughter loves to collect things, create art and loves to read. Her room has always reflected all those things but it was also very cluttered! Part of the reason, we had stalled on room updates is that she had so much stuff and we didn’t know how to incorporate it all into any sort of style. I am SO PROUD of my daughter because in the past month, she has cleaned and decluttered her room like the best of them! This great bedroom purge has allowed us to focus on her style and to add a few decor updates.
Creating a Haven
Tweens and teens spend a lot of time in their rooms! As soon as my daughter is finished up with her homework, she is up in her room, reading, creating or just hanging out. It was important to make this room a place that she loved spending time in.
This girl has so many art supplies and she is always crafting! Her favorite art tool is this large pack of Sharpies!
She set up the cutest little art cart with all of her supplies. I found this cart at Marshalls, however, Target has a similar one HERE.

The Details
Our daughter has the most unique room architecture in our house because of all of the ceiling angles. There are limited spots to where we can put each piece of furniture due to ceiling height variations.
However, her room is super cozy and it gets some of the best light in the house!
Her dresser used to be covered in so much stuff. But she was able to pare down her accessories. Now, she is much more likely to use everything because she can see it all. This earring organizer is PERFECT for storing her large collection of accessories.
We have gotten a start on this wall gallery but we would like to add a few more things. Plus, I plan to paint the wooden succulent box.
This Roll Top Desk is the one I had from my own childhood.
While it isn’t as functional as more modern style desks, she still loves it. More often, she does her homework on her bed or on her floor. Updated: Take a look at her new desk area!
We scored this hammock swing on clearance at a local boutique and it is one of our favorite spots in the house. My husband secured it with a heavy duty anchor and the swing can hold over 350 pounds!
She and I had a crafting night last month and we made this Dreamcatcher. This simple craft just requires yarn and a embroidery hook.
The “no nail” photo ledges are another favorite element of the room. She loves taking pictures with her Instamax (a must for a tween girl!). I found these photo ledges at Pottery Barn. (Available HERE) These ledges are secured with 3M tape. I will say that the tape that was included with the ledges did not hold up and I had to add additional 3M strips to make it stick.
The hardest thing we tackled in the room was the Shiplap looking peel and stick wallpaper (Available HERE). I think this wallpaper would be so easy to install IF you have walls with a regular ceiling. But the angled ceilings in this room made the installation QUITE a project. I stopped and started this wallpaper project several times until we got it finished. If you look closely it is not perfect. But in this case, done is better than perfect. It is so easy to remove, so if we get tired of it, we can simply pull right off. It does not ruin the paint!
Bedding Details
We spent a lot of time searching for the right bedding. I wanted to find a comforter instead of a duvet because I find that Duvets are so hard to keep neat. And if I want my kids to actually make their beds, I have to make it easy for that to happen!
We settled on this comforter set from Pottery Barn Teen. While it is listed as a quilt, it is a true comforter. It is nice and fluffy and not too heavy of a material.
The sheets are from one of our favorite bedding companies, California Design Den. I have talked about these sheets before as we also have them in our master bedroom. I love these sheets because they are so reasonably priced. We have had them for several months and they are just as soft and cozy as when we first got them.
In my opinion, buying sheets can be so overwhelming with deciding on thread counts and fabric type. So, I am happy to have found these sheets that happen to come with a reasonable price point. There is no reason to spend more money!
Thank you to California Design Den for gifting these sheets in exchange for our honest review.Â
Finishing Touches
There are still a few things we need to finish up like replace the old carpet and paint all the trim. But overall, she and I are so happy with how the bedroom has turned out. It truly reflects her style and personality!

Too cute! I love the desk, and that it used to be yours. That art cart is so cute, and a great idea!! And the photo ledge is wonderful too. Lots of fun.

Her room is beautiful- I LOVE the blue color on the walls!!
There are so many things in her room that I love! The jewelry holders are great, the art cart is such a good idea, and the wallpaper really adds to it. My daughter has a lot in common with yours. She even collects snow globes too!
Looks great. My daughter is 11 & 1/2 & she has been decorating her room a little different. Hoping to do a makeover for her room. We are trying to get her to keep her room clean for a while 1st.

Redoing my daughter’s room and cane across your cute room on pinterest. Can you tell me where you got the cute art cart? ? Thx
Hi Whitney, I got it from Homegoods but I linked a few in the post. I know Michaels and sometimes Target has one online!
What is the paint color on the wall. My daughter loves it and says that’s what she’s been looking for, for her room.
I am sorry for the delay-I was trying to track down the color. It was definitely Sherwin Williams and I believe “swimming”. If you took a picture from the post to the store they should be able to color match. Sorry I can’t give you a definitive answer.
Hi! I too have a 12 year old daughter wanting to redecorate her room…it must be the age. 🙂 Can you tell me where you got that cute little lamp and gray shade? Thank you!
Hi! So fun! Would you believe the lampshade was from Five Below. The base is from Target.
I picked out the same bedding for my daughter. It is so pretty. What color are the sheets and where did you get the dreamer pillow.? I did not see it on PB.
Thank you
The sheets are from Amazon and the Dreamer pillow was a Pottery Barn Kids clearance find!
My 12 year girl old loves this room SO much, and so do I! Can you tell me where you got the beautiful bed and nightstand? Love it!!! ?
Terri-Thank you so much for the sweet comment. That means so much to my daughter and me! Unfortunately the bedroom set was purchased at a local store and the actual furniture brand has been discontinued.
Splendid details! It could use some more things like paintings, pictures, and more fun things like rainbows and smiley faces! In all I love it.
Love it all! Going to be redoing my daughters room soon. She wants a new older look for her age now. Where did you find the necklace organizer?
What a beautiful room. We are redoing our girls and you gave me some beautiful idea. Question, you gave the link for the earring holder but what about the necklace holder next to it!? Is that Amazon also?
The necklace holder we found at a resale shop! I’ve seen similar options at home discount stores like Homegoods and Marshalls.
