Well, I couldn’t hold out any longer, Cupid has entered our home and touches of Valentine’s Day are everywhere! I love celebrating Valentine’s Day with my family, so naturally I like to decorate for the holiday. I gravitate towards simple and neutral decor after Christmas, but then by mid January, I am looking to bring some color back into our house. We have spent so much time indoors this Winter, that I need to brighten the mood up with some LOVE! Today, I’ll share our Valentine’s Decor and a Chalkboard idea for the holiday!
I tend to stick to certain spots in the home that I change out for the holidays. I find that if I just change out these areas, I don’t feel overwhelmed by seasonal decor. My kitchen is my favorite and easiest place to change up for the holidays.
Heart Themed Kitchen Decor
I always update our coffee bar shelving. I shared this spot on Instagram the other day. It doesn’t take a lot of decor to update a space with color if the space is typically neutral. Little pops of color can really stand out.
I swapped out our homemade snowflakes for Dollar Store paper heart doilies!
I love using inexpensive and disposable decor pieces for the holidays. These heart striped straws were from the dollar bins at Target a few years ago and I save the ones we don’t use each year.
This little area in the kitchen got a little Valentine’s decor love too. The red stock pot made it’s way onto our stove again and the Lightbox got moved back to this space. I found the cute cupcake towels at Marshalls last week. I love seasonal towels, although, is there anyone else like me that doesn’t actually want the family to USE these towels? #justfordecorpurposes
Candy is one of my favorite decor ‘hacks’. Now, if I can resist eating the M & Ms!
The kids can always count on the gumball machine getting an update for the holiday. Candy hearts for the win! My family knows me so well…the LOVE Rae Dunn plate was a Christmas gift. Amazingly, I did not already own it!
If you’ve been following me long enough, you know that I can’t resist updating my tiered tray. Valentine’s Day themed Rae Dunn mugs, heart candy and more heart straws and it’s all set!
I’ve got little Valetine’s Day decor touches in other places in the house including my dining room area. I’ve had the red garland up since Christmas, so it was easy to keep it going for Valentine’s Day.
It’s fun to mix homemade Valentine’s Day decor decorations with store bought pieces! We made this paper heart garland a few years ago and it still holding strong.
Valentine’s Day Chalkboard
Finally, I wanted to share a Valentine’s Day chalkboard idea to do with your family. If you don’t have a chalkboard, a poster or paper would work too! I thought it would be fun to promote our love for each other writing down 50 things we love about our family. This idea is not too different from my Thankful Chalkboard which was a hit with my family. We can spend February writing down our favorites things about our family!
Take a look around your house and gather up all things RED and PINK! I think you’ll be surprised how much you have around the house that you can use to add some Valentine’s Day color to your space!
