Thankful Chalkboard & Keeping it Simple
I am in utter disbelief that it is officially November which, in my book, means the holiday season has begun! Cue the Christmas tunes and Hallmark Christmas movies! Today I took down all of our Halloween decorations and left out a few fall decor items for Thanksgiving. But I like keeping things simple around the house for the next few weeks because the house is filled with Christmas decorations soon enough. I wanted to share an easy Thanksgiving activity you can start right away with your family to get in the holiday spirit. Over the years I’ve tried various ‘thankful’ activities and some have worked better than others. I find that when we complicate the activity, we abandon it rather quickly. This thankful chalkboard is about as easy as it gets! If you don’t have a chalkboard, a big piece of poster board on a wall or a sheet of paper on the refrigerator works too. It doesn’t have to be fancy!
Create a Thankful Chalkboard Display
Each day each family member writes down a thankful sentiment or note. For little ones that can’t write, an older sibling or parent can help them write their message. Be sure to have chalk/writing utensils right by the board!
***Mom Tip: At the end of the season, be sure to take a picture of the chalkboard…it’s nice to have record of what everyone wrote each year!
There you have it…an easy and uncomplicated activity for Thanksgiving! If you feel compelled to get more crafty with this go for it! There are adorable thankful trees and activities on Pinterest Check out my Pinterest board for Thanksgiving crafts and recipes!
Final thoughts:
It’s so easy to get overwhelmed with creating the perfect holidays memories and activities for your family, most especially this time of year! Sometimes we can feel less than adequate, whether it be in how you decorate or the holiday activities you do with your family. But it’s so important to keep in mind that perfection is not necessary! It’s so easy to avoid doing something or get stuck in the how, that we never get to actually doing!! Remember why you are doing the activity and let go of making it perfect but focus on creating a meaningful experience for your family and friends.
See you back on Friday for my weekly favorites!
I absolutely love this idea!
We just got rid of our baby gate so we now have space by our front door for something like a chalkboard. What do you put on it, in say January, when there are no big holidays or anything major going on? It’s so cute, but scared it might be one more thing to think/stress about. Thoughts?
Oh that’d be fun!! I do inspirational quotes for different months–January it’s about MLK. If I don’t have anything good to write on it I leave it blank for a few weeks–looks good that way too! We do our summer fun list on it for several months. It is really useful!
That’s a good idea to put the fun list up there too. Ha, or just leave it blank! Let’s see what the hubby has to say?
We use it for a lot. DUring a birthday month we sometimes highlight one of the kids with a theme that is relevant to their interests.
That’s such a great idea, I should do a board like that at work!

I love this idea so much! A fun reminder to slow down and remember this time is about being with family. And I’m sure it’s pretty cute to see what kids are thankful for!
