Creating Your Own Fall Fun List

Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! We started off the weekend with our local high school’s homecoming football game. Then Saturday, our youngest woke up not feeling well so we ended up having a quieter day at home. It was just what we all needed. Yesterday,  we took a trip to the apple and pumpkin farm. I’m so glad we got started on on our fall fun list especially since it was the first OFFICIAL day of fall! Today I wanted to share our fall bucket list! I’m hoping that by sharing our fall fun list, it’ll help us stay on track with accomplishing all of our fall plans. More importantly though, I am sharing this list to hopefully spark some ideas for your own family fall bucket list!

As I have mentioned in the past (read more here), our family thrives on traditions big and small. So, it is only fitting that we have annual fall traditions.

Set Realistic Expectations

First, before I get to our family’s list, I wanted to share some thoughts on I have creating a seasonal bucket list. Every family is at different stages and ages, so it is important to recognize what your own family is capable of doing!

Families of littles certainly have limitations between nap schedules and developmentally what little ones are able and willing to do! Then, families with bigger kids are limited often by their kids’ busy sports and activities schedules, but also what their kids are WILLING to do too.  It is no fun to continue doing a tradition for the sake of traditions that no one enjoys anymore…

 Fall 2016

I have come to realize that it is okay to let some traditions go. But I’m also happy to realize that we can add new traditions now that the kids are getting older.

A few traditions is better than too traditions many you never do.

When we created our list, I first asked what the kids wanted to do this fall. Then, I also took a look at our calendar to see what we were realistically able to do based on our already scheduled commitments. There is no point in setting unrealistic expectations with a HUGE list that your family can not accomplish!

I’ve already got tentative times when we can accomplish many of these things, but it is also nice to leave some room for spontaneous fall fun!

In addition to these fall specific activities, we have a few other family events planned. In a few weeks, we are taking a family trip to Niagara Falls during our fall school break.

Annual family traditions always make me a bit sentimental and nostalgic for year’s past. It is hard not to be sad remembering our kids as very little babies visiting the pumpkin patch. However, there is certainly something to be said for having bigger, more independent kids that can easily spend an afternoon hiking in the woods or stay up late with us to watch Halloween movies.

I’m sure it is a bit sad to let some traditions go, but it’s great when you can then make new ones because the kids are older, etc. I love seasonal bucket lists and I hope you are able to cross off all of your items. Fall is my favorite season so there are lots of things I hope to do and I do have tentative plans for some, which helps.
