Bathroom Declutter Checklist
Now it it time to get started decluttering your bathrooms. Whether you have one or four bathrooms, the decluttering process is all the same. If you have a small bathroom, you have to get creative with your storage space. But, more on that in a minutes. Let’s first talk about the bathroom declutter checklist!
- Empty everything out of cabinets and drawers. The room will get messy before it gets better. Use cheap bins to store your products while you are sorting through them. Group similar items together like lotions, make-up, first-aid etc.
- Discard expired medicine and toiletries. The first place to start in the bathroom is getting rid of expired products. It should be a no-brainer to toss old medicine and old cosmetics. (Most make-up is only good for 6 months to a year. Check HERE to see how long each cosmetic product typically lasts).
- Clear out bathtubs and showers. Take out all of the shampoos, soaps, etc. Get rid of old products, donate anything unused.
- Get rid of old bath toys. Bathtubs can quickly fill with clutter if you have a lot of bath toys. Pare down to the favorites and get rid of the rest. The first toys to go should be anything looking moldy or gross!
- Clear off counters and shelves. One easy way to minimize clutter in the bathroom is to have less “stuff” visible. Only keep out a few products and store everything else out of sight.
- Donate or Discard Extra Towels Decide how many towels you need as a family and get rid of the rest.
- Replace Shower Curtain Liner If Needed. While not necessary, now is a good time to replace your shower curtain liner. If it is in good shape, you could throw it in the wash.
- Wipe down counters, inside cabinets and drawers. Now is the time to do a thorough cleaning inside each drawer and cabinet (while everything is out of them).
Small Bathroom Organization Ideas
If you have a small bathroom (and a lot of family to share it with), you have to use creative storage solutions. Here are some small bathroom organization tips!
- Group similar products together into bins. When you are organizing your toiletries, be sure to group similar items in the same spot. All lotions should be together, make up, etc. This not only makes it easy to find what you are looking for but it helps you understand how much stuff you have of something. No more buying a duplicate item because you didn’t realize you had it already!
- Store extra items in a separate location. If you do have a lot of duplicates or stock piles of some of your items, designate a spot in a separate closet or cabinet for those items. We have one clear shoe box container that stores all of our stock pile. So we know if we run out of something, to look in this box first.
- Utilize drawer organizers to maximize storage space. These clear organizers are so necessary for small drawer organization. The containers that come separate (versus one container that is divided up) are easy to use because you can configure to your liking.
- Corral items on your counters with trays and small bins. Make your counters look pretty with nice trays to organize your toiletries. Your counters look more organized when items are grouped together on a tray.

- Assign a drawer to each family member. If you have several family members sharing a bathroom, it is good to assign everyone a drawer (or half a drawer). Use a drawer divider to section off each person’s spot. This makes it easy for everyone to find their things and makes clean up super quick and easy!
- Maximize vertical space. Take advantage of wall space by adding open shelving or a medicine cabinet. Be selective about what you put on your shelves.
You can use mason jars or clear acrylic containers to store bathroom products.
Small bowls and baskets also make great containers for storage. I used a small footed bowl to store hair scrunchies.
- Utilize under the sink storage space. Don’t forget about all of the space under your sink! You can even use dollar store bins to organize your products. We store our bathroom cleaning caddies under the sink. More on that over HERE.
- Swap towel racks for hooks. One of the best decisions we made in our kids’ bathrooms was to use towel hooks instead of towel racks. Not only do hooks require less wall space but they are so much easier to use. Your family is much more likely to throw a towel on a hook then to neatly fold it back onto a towel bar.
It is so easy for a bathroom to get full of clutter! The key is to implement a few key organization methods and then to make sure everyone knows how to use them!
Are you ready to declutter your bathroom?
First, come up with a plan on how you will declutter your bathrooms. If you have more than one bathroom, will you work on one at a time. Or will you tackle one mini project in each bathroom before moving on to the next task? The only way decluttering will happen is if you allot some time in your schedule. So set aside some time this week and get it done:)

I should probably get rid of all of my empty containers!
Yes!! 🙂
LOVE the baskets- such a cute way to stay organized!
I love the tip to change out the shower curtain. Adding that to my list for the week.
Loving your vertical storage!! Super pretty!
Your bathroom look like the same size as ours. I was just thinking I needed shelves like you have. Mason jars are a Good option in the bath.
These are great bathroom storage/organization ideas. I have been thinking of how I want to re-organize ours. Now that my boys are older much of their medicine and products can be stored back in their own bathrooms/areas now and that should freeze up some extra space in our bathroom.
